Happy Friday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Trading Places (1983). I have this movie on DVD and I must watch it tonight. BTW, nice antlers. And you did hear this movie being referenced in Scream (1996).

Tom W.

This movie may have the single most "paused" scene in history. 😁

Thomas Yanez

Addie, now that you have seen "Trading Places", I have to inform you that you are legally required to see "Coming to America" as soon as humanly possible for reasons that cannot be discussed due to spoilers but I'm sure many here will agree with.

Thomas Yanez

Every time I watch it. I especially love the reactions from the young reactors who only know the current Academy Award winning Jamie Lee Curtis.

Alex Tan

...and I have two other Eddie Murphy movies for you, Coming to America (1988) & Beverly Hills Cop III (1994), both directed by John Landis. #MoreEddieMurphyForAddieCounts ...and I also suggest National Lampoon's Animal House (1978), An American Werewolf in London (1981), and Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983), for more Landis movies. He even had a cameo in Spider-Man 2 (2004). #MoreJohnLandisForAddieCounts

Thank you Addie. Classic film.

Tom W.

Oh yeah. Every time. Without a doubt. Some things need time to be fully appreciated.

Byrd N. Hand

Yes, I imagine in some circles this is known as "The Movie Where Jamie Lee Curtis Shows Her Boobs" 🤭 (it's not acutally the only one, but it's definitely the most well-known one).

Alex Tan

That's another good Eddie Murphy/John Landis movie. #ComingToAmericaForAddieCounts

Might as well also throw in the fourth BHC movie. "48 Hours," too. "The Kentucky Fried Movie" for Landis as well.

Tom W.

Kudos to her. Nobody stays that gorgeous forever. Might as well show off while you're at your physical prime.

Alex Tan

Good choices here. I would love to see Addie finish up the Beverly Hills Cop tetralogy.

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 This is such a great movie! It's one that I enjoy watching not only on the holidays, but year round. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this. For more Eddie Murphy, I highly recommend the 1982 "48 Hours". And for more Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis together, I very highly recommend the 1991 movie "My Girl". Have a great day today, and a great weekend! 😊

Alex Tan

She's gonna need tissues for My Girl (1991). #MyGirlForAddieCounts

Tom W.

Excellent point. That's probably a close second only because I think more people total have seen Trading Places.

Byrd N. Hand

YEAH!! The image of Dan Aykroyd pathetically gnawing on that slab of salmon through that filthy Santa beard always makes laugh. Eddie Murphy's fourth-wall break (as if to say, "Could these assholes be any more patronizing?") is also brilliant. (I guess "Batman Returns" will be on Monday.)

Hey Addie, you should watch Coming to Ameirca next. You'll really love it! It's hard to suggest this movie without a context, but you'll have to trust us that this movie should be watched along side Trading Places.

Do you mean the volleyball scene in Top Gun (1986), the dogfight football scene in Top Gun: Maverick (2022), or the exact moment when Patrick Swayze's naked behind gets out of bed, after sleeping with Jennifer Gray in Dirty Dancing (1987)?

Tom W.

The Swayze moment, perhaps. Those other scenes are too long for any one iconic image.

fire12wife

...and My Girl 2 (1994)! It's one of the few sequels that's as good as the original!

Steve

Have you seen the latest Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) and if so is it any good?

Alex Tan

Yes I have and I enjoyed it. Addie's gonna have fun with that one.

Cameron Kerby

Hi Addie! I really likely your reaction. It was also my first time seeing this movie and I totally enjoyed it. Can’t wait for your next reaction.

Vwlss Nvwls

Such a fun movie. I was only 12 when it came out, so I did not see it till it was on cable about a year later. I have loved this movie ever since, and still find myself quoting it to this day.

Doug

"How much is the bet?! It must be an absurd amount!" Lol, yeah, the amount is absurd, but not for the reasoning you were thinking at the time. 😂

There is so much to say about this one. I'll just do a few... Legendary puppeteer Frank Oz (Sesame Street, Muppets) was the dirty cop that "found" the angeldust. The pawnbroker was played by bluesman Bo Diddley. We get a glimpse of a very young Giancarlo Esposito in the jail scene. For more Don Ameche, who played Mortimer Duke, check out Midnight (1939), Heaven Can Wait (1943), and Cocoon (1985). For more of Mozart's Non piu andrai (1786), check out Amadeus (1984). (In the deepest possible voice: "Yeah1")

Luis Fernandez

Oh... one more! For more people stepping on the ball... check out the referenced movie, Auntie Mame (1958)

Byrd N. Hand

Oz's fellow Muppeteer Richard Hunt also appeared as Wilson. Coleman (Denholm Elliott) also played Marcus in the Indiana Jones movies.

I still don't know what happened in the pit, the dukes bought, and the guys sold. so how did the guys get 300 million?

Luis Fernandez

Each pair took a different approach to "buy low, sell high", according to the information they had. The Dukes started buying from the start, assuming that after the crop report was made public the prices would soar due to shortages in oranges. Others saw the Dukes buying and started buying as well ("they are trying to corner the market... they must know something"), and that caused the price to rise. That wasn't a concern for the Dukes prior to the report being made public because, due to their false information, they thought the price would rise more. After the report was revealed to be fake, the Dukes were hit with the double whammy of prices falling and their failure to sell. So when the market closed they were stuck with the huge bill. The boys took a different approach because they had different information. They waited for the Dukes to drive the price up, and when it hit a certain point, they started selling. Note that they were "selling high" before they actually possessed the thing they were selling. When the crop report was made public, people saw that there would be no shortage of oranges and the prices went way down. When they hit a certain level the boys were then able to "buy low" and thus were able to deliver everything they had previously sold. This difference in buying and selling price is where they made their money.

I did the calculation long time ago - when the movie came out. It didn't quite add up. Neither did the calculation on "Wall Street" - but that calculation could be 'off-set' by 'previous holdings.'

When are we gonna watch Kung Fu Panda 4?
