Here's the full length reaction to Taxi Driver! I don't think this is one of my favorites of Scorsese's movies (I think my favs are The Departed and The Wolf of Wall Street). I know this is one of his most iconic movies though, so I'm glad I watched it! I feel like this ending can be interpreted several different ways, so let me know your thoughts! Enjoy!

Also, I'm going to add Shutter Island to my October schedule because it was second place in the poll. It seems like it might be a lil creepy, so I think it'll be perfect for October!

It's been a loooong time since I saw this movie. It's really heavy. Probably be a long time before I watch it again. In the beginning, he *almost* seems like a normal guy. Then he goes and takes a date to the porno theater. And the ending was definitely all in his head. A random taxi driver shoots 3 people in a brothel--I doubt the cops would assume that he was being heroic. But maybe, hopefully, the cops returned Iris to her parents. Also, I couldn't help but think of the OG Freaky Friday. Jodie Foster was in that movie around this time too. Add that one to the watchlist, since they just came out with a new one.

I dig this one. If you rewatch The Watchmen you can see the influences Travis Bickle had on the Rorschach character. I give big kudos to Cybil Shepherd's stylist in this one. She looks fantastic in every scene. You should also check her out in The Last Picture Show (1971). By "her" I mean Cybil, not her stylist. Not sure who the stylist was or what else she's done.

Oh with regard to this film, The Joker character of Arthur Fleck, the Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix was patterned somewhat after Taxi's Travis Bickle. Also in the scene with the man talking about killing his wife in the back seat was none other than director Martin Scorsese in one of his earliest acting debut's. on on a side note actress Jodi Foster was stalked after this movie by John Hinckley who wanted "impress her" by playing out the Taxi character and trying to assassinate President Ronald Reagan. That movie and its aftermath ended up traumatizing her for life https://www.thewrap.com/jodie-foster-stalker-theater-reagan-assassination-john-hinckley/; https://english.elpais.com/culture/2024-06-26/jodie-foster-and-the-trauma-that-has-stopped-her-doing-theater-for-40-years.html ;

I found Taxi Driver to be dark, dreary, and depressing. I like watching movies that make me feel better after I’ve seen them and this wasn’t one of them. I think this is a prime example of when critics got it wrong. There are other movies that covered the same topics but were much better made.

If anybody needs it, I've got a code for a digital version of this.
