I definitely thought this was one of the weakest MCU movies. The villain was completely forgettable, the story was "meh", and I still think Carol Danvers was woefully miscast, it should have been Katee Sackhoff. The one real bright spot was Iman Vellani, she is ridiculously charming as Kamala. :)

I really enjoyed the chemistry between the main characters. They story was ok at best for me

Happy Friday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed The Marvels (2024) and. My girlfriend & I saw it in IMAX, when it first came out to theaters in November. It was surprisingly good, despite the bad rap it got. I even got a huge laugh attack out of the flerkens eating the 300+ scientists in order to evacuate SABER, via the 10 escape pods it only has, all set to the song Memory from Cats as performed by Barbra Streisand. Luckily, the SABER scientists were spat out afterwards. However, looking back on all of the MCU movies that I watched in 2023, my favorite is still and will always be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). IMO, The Marvels falls in between GotG 3 & Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). I'm also looking forward to Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) in July.

Happy Friday, Addie! 😊 Congratulations on being completely caught up on the MCU! I actually just watched this movie for the first time earlier in the week. I pretty much enjoyed it. And I can't wait to see what you think of it. That end credit definitely has me hyped for future MCU projects. Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today and weekend! 😊

And now you (and we) can finally get a genuinely substantial break from the MCU...

Sorry, but 'flerken' still sounds to me like a word the Swedish Chef from the Muppets would say. 🥴

...and we'll see you soon for Deadpool & Wolverine (2024).

Thank God we are done with the MCU after this until the next Deadpool. This franchise has been crap for a couple years now. This film had some good character dynamics and cool after credits but its a 4/10 movie, with a 10/10 react from addie xD

I love where they are going with this...I actually loved this movie!

I have zero illusions that this is a good movie, but for me it was 100% a fun movie and sometimes that's enough for me.

I didn't like the first Captain Marvel movie and I had problems with the Ms Marvel series (loved Kamala and her family, didn't care at all about the villains or their schemes). I wasn't expecting to like this movie, but I really did. If we accept that the Defenders series has been deemed MCU canon, then we're not quite caught up just yet.

REDR58

Saw it twice, once in IMAX and once in 4DX and now I have my 4K/digital copy so will be watching it later on here tonight!

The Dingo

In the Comics, Monica has gone by Photon, Spectrum, Pulsar, and (yes) Captain Marvel.

GotG3 was crap? Wakanda Forever was crap? Spider-Man No Way Home was crap? Dr Strange Multiverse of Madness was crap? Yes there has been some misses but you're opinion that those movies are crap is in the minority.

You and the Perfect Mix reacted the same day. You probably should’ve collaborated. Following the box office reception, Iman Vellani responded by saying that there’s no point in focusing on something that’s beyond her control. That’s Bob Iger’s problem. She genuinely had fun making the movie and was happy with the finished product. She also suggested a way to restore the hype level, and that’s by having characters pair up every now and then until they eventually form the next main squad. In the meantime, Iman co-wrote another 4-part Ms. Marvel comic run titled Mutant Menace. This is a follow-up to her first run called The New Mutant. The first volume will hit shelves on Wednesday, March 6. Believe it or not, Monica would’ve gotten a codename by the end of the movie. It didn’t make the final cut, but she would’ve adopted the moniker Photon. She would be honoring her late mother since that was her pilot codename.

The Marvels isn't the best MCU film, the plot makes no sense at all and the villain is totally forgettable, but the main character interactions are fun and it's hard to be upset with the goofy Cats scene. 😄 I suspect how much people like the movie overall is kind of tied to how much they like or dislike the Ms Marvel show since Kamala and her family are definitely a highlight. (Me, I enjoyed Ms Marvel, it's a cute show!)

I had a lot of fun watching this movie, and I'm glad you enjoyed it as well. Thanks for sharing :) You asked a couple of questions about how things were done in the comics, so here's a few non-spoilery, possibly somewhat interesting tidbits: I don't thing they had to sing on the comic version of Aladna, but the natives did speak in rhyme. Carol has rebooted a dying star a couple times in the comics, but always at a cost. The first time she lost most of her powers, which led to some personal crises. The second time was in a possible alternate future, and she died. The post credit scene was riffing off some stories from old X-Men comics. Carol had told the Avengers to fuck off (they deserved it at the time) and spent a few years living in the X-mansion, helping them punch genocidal aliens and the like. During that time she wore a red and white suit and went by the name Binary, which is what Beast called Maria. So, it's a universe where Maria got the powers, not Carol. Not a clue what, if anything, will come of this in the MCU. Thanks again, and looking forward to what you have for us next.

What I took from this was that it had more TV series production value/script than movie content/story. We have to be honest, we were beyond spoiled from everything prior. I wish that I had that in mind before seeing it. It would have made this more enjoyable. I am both anxious and excited for what's to come down the road. You were trying your best to recall other characters we've come across in the past but didn't name a few. I'm guessing there are other subscribers who are listing everyone from shows or movies, those are probably the other subscribers I have blocked. You can take the time to review previous characters on your own. Next month there will be (animated) X-MEN content coming which is picking up where the older X-MEN animated series left off. As big a fan of the X-MEN I am, you don't need to watch the old and new series right away. If you happen to be interested... watch the entire old series on your own, that way you'll be caught up quicker.
