Hi, this question is for Alyssa, in a previous Q&A you mention you are were a Star Trek fan. I'm curious if you still keep up with Trek, still revisit old shows or watch any of the new series' that are out, or if that was more of a flash in the pan fixation that you've sort of moved on from. I know for me I can sometimes hyperfixate on a thing and lose interest and never come back, whereas for others they become a lifelong interest. Star Trek is definitely one of the latter for me.

No Good

Exciting! Other than Konata I guess, who is your favorite LS character? Why?

SkiddyBones

Very comfy video! Excited for your eventual lucky star video as someone who literally knows nothing about it. I was head banging to the song at the ending and noticed it didn’t have a title in the song list. Assuming this is one of your songs, just know I can’t wait for whenever you release it

Alis

As someone who made the unfortunate mistake of reading Shadow Star when they meant to read Lucky Star (I was very confused on when the cute high school shinangins were going to start and instead I got... Horror) have either of you ever experienced Shadow Star?

Geno7

LMAO I CANT BELIEVE YOU HAVE LEGEND OF THE 10 ELEMENTAL MASTERS FUCK YES also if the song at the end is a preview of the album you've been working on I can't wait, it honestly makes me beyond ecstatic to hear you tackle more fucked up and evil sounding material give me more of those delicious minor 2nds

E.J Smith

YOU FINALLY TALKED ABOUT LUCKY STAR!!! I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN I SAW THIS I KNOCKED OVER A LAMP LMAO Anyway my question is did you watch the sub or dub? And what is your favorite episode in the show?

Thomas Harvey

Oh, neat, someone wrote the whole comment I came here to write! Is there any chance there could be a review of this whole part of the, hesitate to say "outsider art" space? I think a @hazel review would get into the depths but also be respectful, if that makes any sense??

EstherKitsoone

Hello. I was super surprised to see you put out 2 videos only a week apart. I know you've abandoned your monthly uploaded schedule. Would you say this has freed you up to do videos of more variable lengths, scope, and levels of ambition?

Skeleton Gwen

(Big fan of the more Vloggy videos and especially the new music previewed at the end of this one!) As someone who missed out on Lucky Star growing up, do u think it was a real of of a kind series or were there similar spots in the late 00's media landscape?

Maverick

Congrats on surviving Santa Con Lmao. When I was dorming in Manhattan for college it’d be a yearly occurrence of just people dressed in Santa outfits getting wasted at the popular bars all day. Have barely seen it in Brooklyn but yeah it tends to be a thing for more metropolitan spots Anyway what’s y’all’s favorite soups if you have any? At the time of watching I made myself a haphazard soup with some brown rice, Store bought chicken stock, little miso paste, frozen veggies I wanted to finish, a block of tofu, and some sichuan chili oil to round everything out alongside standard seasoning to taste. Not bad, but it definitely makes me want to try more recipes now that it’s colder outside. Great video as always, hope y’all have/had a nice holiday!

Habibi

Hi Hazel! hi Alyssa! I have a question. What’s the most mediocre and generic digipaint anime you remember from the moe era? I wouldn’t say it was bad but Bottle Fairy always comes to my mind when I remember cute but vapid anime from that era.

Miles Phillips

First time asking a question, sorry if I get this format wrong. Anyway, what would your ideal long-form series to watch/read/play?

Arpaigeio

I know it was a joke but I need you to know that I would Eat Up a 12-hour Lucky star video if you made one! What is the longest video you'd ever seriously consider making?

Lemonada

Hi Hazel and Alyssa! My f r i e n d just starting working on doing a fan translation for a Kyoko Okazaki manga right before this video came out. They were wondering if you could share any tips for beginners. Are there any taboos or just annoying things you’ve seen scanlators do that should be avoided? Do you know a good system to keep everything organized on the digital end? Thank you and I can’t wait to watch the 24 hour cut of the Lucky Star video when it comes out!

Marie Emari

Hi Hazel and Alyssa! First off I'd just like to say I love that cover of Yurayura you play at the end, it owns, very excited to hear more of it when it releases! Anyway, with both Haruhi and Lucky Star coming back, what other 2000s anime/manga are you guys hoping come back?

SerenityVenus

Top 5 Moral Orel Characters?

Male Tears

Hello, weebs girls! I come in peace :3 I wanted to ask, what’s the holy grail of inaccessible manga? Maybe it’s a series that’s been long out of print or so rare that it’s prohibitively expensive to own? Thanks :)

Travis Johnson

Hi Hazel, love the chaotic energy from this video! Sorry if this is a longish one, just wanted to put it out there since this video goes a little bit into it at its beginning. I wanted to know if you'd ever consider doing a deeper dive into the slow erosion of Akihabara over the years. There was a span of about 10 years in which I went there pretty sporadically starting in 2008 on a middle school trip (arguably at its cultural peak), and numerous other times encompassing my transition from proto-weeb all the way to jaded college student with too many half baked opinions. I'm going back next year, in my 30s and having gone through a complete anime love revival, but there's something deeply bittersweet knowing, even from afar, that this weird one-of-a-kind collection of blocks will never be the same as it was on that first trip, trapped in collection of hazy jet-lag memories. The Sega arcades shutting down, the stores closing... Akihabara feels like it's slowly dying in contrast to (or maybe even in correlation to) anime taking off with much more universal ubiquity in recent years. I don't know if the two are related or anything, your video just struck a sad nerve a bit and just felt like pouring one out for a space I miss and in some ways may never experience again.

Marie

hey! idk if this question has been asked before but which evergrace soundtrack do you prefer?

Marie Emari

The one time I'm confident about recognizing something and I fall flat lmao (regardless it still owns I'm looking forward to listening!)

Ranakel

Hello, and happy holidays coming up as time of writing! I never got into Lucky Star because the style, compared to what was more broadly happening at the time, kinda bounced off of me. Somehow, that distaste survived my teens and way beyond, even though I know by now how important and "good, actually" it is. Any anime, or video game that's like that for you? Something that you know is probably great, but you just can't make the first step to get over it?

Serv

Wow. I learned today because of Hazel that 17 year old me (28 now) bought all eight English copies and they're in stellar condition. Had no clue they were rare xD. If you ever want to use them for content Hazel I'd be more than happy to loan them to ya, no strings attached. Just putting it out there if it would make your work easier on ya!

frank lloyd wright

do you have a favorite lucky star otoMAD / remix? also i want you to know i demolished two slices of pepperoni pizza and a modelo while watching this video and it was an intensely enjoyable experience <3

bacchusdiem

Hi Hazel! Hi Alyssa!! Everyone is dying to know… which end of a chocolate cornet do you eat first, the thin end or the fat end? Additionally, can you do the lucky star dance?

Phoenix

This is a bit of an observation but when I watched the video with subs on, you cut yourself off as a bit and the subs auto-generated the line "gay hub for otaku" which sums up your channel very nicely. That being said, actual question: best omurice ingredient combo?

Alex Schefe

Yoooo was that a new Burned In track in the outro?

newbanZo

Hey yall! I thought of this question after the AGO video Q&A but its related to importing sites so Imma ask it here hope that ok lol I'm sure there are Americana otaku in Japan but do you know if they have a smiliarly robust proxy bidding/ importing/warehouse industry? While I'm bidding on an official Evangelion Speedo, is someone in Japan bidding on a Target exclusive Iron Man or some shit?

Elias Rosner

So happy to see the library shout outs! As a librarian, it makes me very happy to see. You mentioned the moe boom and I gotta know do you think "moe" as a genre is fading entirely or has just metamorphosized into something distinct yet connected?

Margo

This is a really random question but I wanted to know what brand of egg you buy? I live in Seattle and I'm always looking for an egg with a really amber yolk. The ones you used in the cooking segment looked so yummy

vulcanide

hello! thank you for a wonderful and thoughtful video as always. lucky star was one of my favorite series as a kid so i was ecstatic to hear it returning. my question is, which characters do you each like/relate to most, and in addition, which pairing (konata/kagami, yutaka/minami, etc.) do either of you like/relate to most with your own relationship?

Trebbie Sanguini

Hey fellow (i think pnw?) gay nerd! I dont really have a specific question because tbh I never really got into lucky star as I have reslly weird anime watching habits (i just endlessly watch goldfish warning and urusei yatsura or the space family carlvinson ova when I want to ugly happy cry) but I just wanted to say I love your videos and yours id the first patreon I joined. Sorry I cant figure out how to do a line break on mobile. Im mad jealous of your Dream Hunter Rem merch and your videos are so cozy I get a little anxious when theyre over.

Juan

I noticed you post a lot about Guilty Gear not too long ago on twitter. Which Guilty Gear character appeals to your middle school self? Despite me currently finding him bland to see and fight, I feel like Ky Kiske would've been my go to guy when I was 13. A guy who hates Gears but became a gear? cmon....

SoDaft

With print magazines basically being dead now it got me thinking about what I used to read. I was a religious reader of the UK's official Nintendo magazine (that was it's actual name). It was basically just Nintendo power with a coat of British paint. What if any magazines did you read and do you think they did anything better than online versions?

Olshay

I remember you mention wanting to make a video about anime that got insanely popular in other countries. Is this idea still on the table? One thing i can tell you from living here in eastern europe, those adaptations of childrens books like Moomin are cult classics to the point many don't even consider them anime. They're just cartoons to many Gen X-ers. This is exactly the fate of Maya the Honey Bee, an adaptation from 1970 of an Austrian book. I bring this up beceause to my shock it got a full dub here in Poland back in '75, when the Soviet union was around (this barely happened) Also, not a question but thanks to you Arisa Good Luck got a Polish fan sub! Warms my heart to see something this obscure get subbed in my native tongue because it got elevated by someone with a platform.

Penny Vath

great video love the cooking! "no one draws hands like these" Have you heard about our lord and savior Witch Hat Atelier?

T. K.

Hello Folks! I appreciated the Chaos of the mid episode cooking segment, and how it mirrored the out of left field nature of it in the magazine. You had also mentioned a fondness for manga taking the step to give somewhat fourth wall breaking instruction, and was wondering if both of you had favorite examples of this, either with food or other tasks? Two examples the come to my mind in the random recipe in Scott Pilgrim for vegan pot pie, and the curry recipes and advice in the first few volumes of "addicted to curry" an older ecchi battle cooking manga. Thanks, and hope you all are well.

lastrealyearner

Hey, y'all! This is honestly not that related to this video in specific, so I get it if you don't respond, but I was re-watching the video about cozy anime RPGs. In it, you offhandedly mention possibly doing a video on old obscure cellphone games, and I was wondering if you planned on going through with it/ were working on it. Either way, love the vids and music; keep it up c: !

Video Witch

I've accumulated a lot of rare anime magazines and artbooks over the years at convention swap meets that still to this day seem to not have scans on the internet. I have been way too scared to scan them because I don't want to destroy them. Have you found any safe methods to scan stuff like this that doesn't involve destroying the books?

Trebbie Sanguini

Teenage me: *obsessed with May and then even more obsessed with Bridget when I discovered them and thinking I want to look like that* "hmm yes this is very normal cis boy behavior"

Kay Vekos

Hi Hazel and Alyssa! I had a question for the Pokemon video: What bit of Pokemon merchandising stuck with you most growing up? I remember really wanting those Japan-only tropical island Pokemon cards that went together to make a little scene but them being too expensive at the local sketchy Pokemon card store. Ditto for those oversized official cards of the original legendary birds. Also, what the hell is that man eating out of the buckets? Bulk popcorn? Thanks for all the fun videos and streams this year and I hope you both have a great holiday!

KrasserBub

Hi yall, great video as always! I especially enjoyed your cooking part, since you sometimes talk about your passion for cooking on the Human Insects Pod. I tried your technique of frying some onions, garlic and spicy peppers in the rice cooker before cooking the rice in it, and it turned out super good! Are you planning to try out more dishes, anime related or otherwise, on the channel? Or is it most probably gonna stay a one time thing? Hope yall have a great day :)

Arrogant cum trucks

My boyfriend lost his mind watching you cook & wanted to say that you have really nice knives & handle them well but that using a glass cutting board damages them. Also, I never watched Lucky Star but idk I’m probably going to now, great video:)

Cv4_12

I was wondering how long it takes for you to make a video on average. And, by the way, you make my absolutely favorite videos on youtube.

mag

What are some good resources for someone wanting to get into music composition, especially for making shoegaze-like songs?

actually a dawg

Hey yall hope your having a good day. I am a pretty late comer to anime, out side of death note and Evangelion it just wasn't something I sought out or was grabbed by until my mid 20s. So are their any institutional works in the medium you think are instrumental to see, or just really worth getting to?

Kitty ( The cursed existence of financial instability ) fo

I was not aware of the fate that befell ' Anna millers ' or the Doujinshi shop, thank you for telling me. I am very interested in the Oumrice recipes in particular because I would like to make that at some point. I miss having a scanner that worked. question: what is your go-to source for recipes for Japanese foods?

MeowMix64

Is "RAWR XD" still cringe? I want to bring it back but it seems like we're not quite there yet

Bluecurls

Hi Hazel and Alyssa!! Thank you for all the great videos and q&as! They have really helped me get through my uni work this year, I love hearing yours and Alyssa’s opinions on anime, manga and videos game, yous get it! Lucky star is a great slice of life and comedy anime. I love how it just shows the girls day to day lives until they graduate. Do you think that style of anime is disappearing? And why so? Does the moe boom fading have something to do with it?

Konnor M

Hey Hazel and Alyssa! Lucky Star is such a nostalgic thing for me. Konata is still a favorite and influential character to me. I love how unapologetically nerdy she is. Something little me (adult me too tbh) really needed at the time. But as most everyone else probably said, as someone teaching myself more dishes and lover of anime food, I'd love to see more cooking content. It was really nice and made me want to cook the omurice you made, even though I'm not super fond of omelettes. Maybe trying to recreate anime dishes or trying any other recipes you come across randomly.

turpnasty

Not a question, just wanted to say that that new song you hinted at the end sounded amazing!! Can’t wait to hear it in full

nolongang

happy holidays hazel and alyssa! this video was so cute!! the cooking section was especially fun, although, i can see how it’d be tricky to multitask during. i’m curious if we’ll be seeing more of these occasional self indulging type videos in the future? also i’m hyped for that teaser song at the end hehe!

martyb

I just watched Lupin III: Mystery of Mamo, mind blown, looked up Sōji Yoshikawa, realized he worked on the finale of Kirby: Right Back At Ya!, mind blown again. This makes me want to revisit the whole Kirby anime and I was curious if y’all have thoughts or feelings on it.

When you guys moved to your new place, how did you safely move all your media/books? I recently had to dig out a slipcased LoTR + Hobbit book set that was buried deep underneath a pile of books in a big moving box and had become pretty warped. Thankfully, because there was one book missing from the set, the gap in the slipcase allowed it to warp to take the brunt of the weight, so the books were fine. Only mildly unfortunate that I can't fit all the books back in the slipcase. Have you experienced books or other media getting warped/deformed after being moved/stored under heavy weight? Any tips on preventing this?

Toby Ray Serrano

Hi Hazel and Alyssa! Do either of you have any thoughts on the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise?

Sarah_is_cool

Hey so just got done binging through all of Hazel’s videos and enjoyed every second of it. Crunchyroll just premiered a show called Tomo-chan Is a Girl, which is about a tomboy who’s friend/crush acts as if she is a guy. People often misidentify Tomo as a boy at first as well because of the way she acts/sounds. However my trans-girl brain decided to rewrite it that she is a trans girl because I related to some of the scenarios a lot and just am starved for representation. My question is have either of you ever reinterpreted something to force representation into something?

Big Marsh

Hi Hazel, and Alyssa as well! idk if I'm too late for this thread but I wanted to ask, Do ye have any opinions on "The Banshees of Inisherin" (or Irish media in general)? Being Irish myself I'm downright annoyed at the lack of quality Irish film, animation, or media in general (However that has been changing more and more recently i.e. Cartoon Saloons Productions). Despite this, I think there are a lot of gems hiding in plain sight, "The Banshees of Inisherin" being one. It is a great film that I enjoyed immensely, I think it perfectly portrays the Irish struggle with place and a sense of worth, in a way that feels incredibly close to home. The dialogue, scenery, tone, and atmosphere all feel so real and accurate to actual Irish life (even despite the time difference) That's my question, thanks as always for the amazing content :)

Ashley Wintermute Williams

i don't have a question, just wanted to say that so many of your lines live rent free in my mind and have become staples of me and my partners every day life but in particular anytime we see anyone with one eye covered we both sing out loud GIVE ME A SECOND EYYEEE. you make me laugh harder than anyone else on the planet ever has and that's why you get my Patreon sub, thank you for all you do.

Ashley Wintermute Williams

oh and ELFEN LIED? ELFEN LIED ABOUT BEING A GOOD ANIME any time i see/hear that show mentioned. and a million more but those are the ones floating at the front of my brain right now.
