As someone who was born and raised in Whittier, CA, and raised a Jehovah's Witness, what Alison said about the world being in your home and and long car rides to and from it really hit home for me.

I totally forgot about GA for a second and got really hyped that someone had access to a volume of one of her non translated works which I've only seen blurry JPEG's for. She's most well known for GA and Dept Heaven so I probably should have lead with that. The closest thing I ever got to a Kuro anime was a 5 second walk in cameo in the GA anime adaptation, alas.

oh right i always forget she also did the dept heaven games, what a legend

After listening to that pokemon discussion, it would be interesting to see a pokemon game focused on pokemon contests. You can either go full cute pokemon like skitty and the like, or challenge yourself by making garbodor and muk cute

I feel you with getting into manga when one piece and Naruto where the only thing available it was like Stockholm syndrome. Ended up championing literally anything I could get my hands on including vampire shojo and stuff like that

I loved the Star Trek talk, I also got into it the same way Alyssa did, with the JJ Abrams movies. And similarly, now I get all the reasons nerds at the time were annoyed with them. Still, I can enjoy them for what they are, but the shows will always be where it's at. I do encourage y'all to keep watching, there's a lot of good stuff there, especially as you go deeper into the 90s shows. Also the new shows are good, too. Definitely a different vibe but still good.
