hahaha yess, we hope BND can be in peace but seriously what's the big deal, if mad men (or another show) was late people would ask too in others posts

Johan Liebert is here. Easily one of my fave characters of all time. Can't wait to see more of your analysis about him. The voice actor for his character is so perfect imo. His voice sounds so gentle but also very creepy at the same the time. One of my 2 theories about the candy situation is that Johan's lying about it & taking credit. It works in his favour to twist things up and rattle Tenma's world and make him feel responsible. The other theory has to wait until episode 14. Thank you again, for posting this today <3

Danny

He has arrived

Flubbedsquid

My thoughts for how Johan poisoned the candy would be simply stealing a syringe and injecting it through the wrapper. We know he was conscious before the doctors realized it, he could have snuck into supplies and stolen something.

Christopher Rathauscher

my theory about the candy is 1: he is in an hospital he could do that after tenma told him in the night. 2: someone else did tried too kill him with poisened candy

James Long

Most likely scenario is that Johan injected the candy with a needle and syringe. He got that and the poison from the hospital. It could be done through the bag and wrapper leaving barely any trace.

fionan franklin

Mad men sucks 🤣 most overrated show since American inferior version of House of cards!

Matej Sučić

You will understand ewerything when you watch more episodes

thenamelessgirl

i don't understand why theres people complaining about you speculating, i mean the reason why a lot of us love watching you, is because your theories and all the fun of you making conclutions, personally it helps me a lot with the listening thing because im still learning english, and i listen to you to have a good time and have fun!

Jack SV

Ah.. see.. I wish I could give you the answers to questions.. but what’s the fun in that? Now, when it comes to this anime and the proposed idea that all lives are equal is an interesting one.. some people might agree with that notion while others might disagree. Personally for me it all comes down to the type of sins you’ve committed in the past. Some people feel redemption is never off the table for criminals but I feel like some people are beyond saving.. that’s just me of course. I cant wait for you girls to get further into the story :)

D

Im definitely going to be that person to tell you to...just leave the candy alone. It really really doesnt matter that much lol

Mr Krabs

lmaooo you guys and obsessing with the bag of candy

Floweyyyy

I wish I could say more about the candy, there are theories. I think the one that makes the most sense to me is that Johan injected the muscle relaxant with a syringe (probably AFTER he saw the doctors eat the candy for the first time, learning that they liked it, then he injected the relaxant into the remaining candy in the bag and waited for them to eat it again or somehow got them to eat the candy again). Now about "how did Johan, a child, know which poison to use etc?" that's something I probably can't explain without giving spoilers, you'll have to watch more of the story before we can try to give an explanation for that part.

YawnSong

Dr. Frankenstein has given birth to his monster lol

Robert Dirk H.

I believe that Johan lied to Dr. Tenma and that someone wanted to kill Johan with the poisoned candy, but that he used it to his advantage to challenge Dr. Tenma's morals in this episode.

Kana Fujisaki

What a Amazing Monday!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH💖

My Toasty Toast

Y’all leave the YouTube comments to YouTube 😭

Been a life long anime fan but Monster was one of the shows I never got around to. The one thing I knew about it was that Johan is considered one of the greatest antagonist in all of anime. There is also the funny coincidence that a youtuber I follow just put out a video a couple days ago about how Johan is the anime antagonist that has disturbed him the most. (Shout out to Friendly Space Ninja).

Patrick Wotton

Them focusing on the hows of the candy poisoning is so funny of them, it's so Milena and Lola coded

bondbond53

If psycho why so pretty Johan

lambo

I understand the concern about the candy, but there are pretty solid explanations when you go deeper into a show. It's like when 8 year old Thorfinn was killing grown up vikings left and right (which is even less probable in real life, the difference is that Monster is a more of a psychological story). Some people are just "special" like that. But it can definitely ruin the immersion if you still don't buy it, so that's fair and you are allowed to feel however you want!

INFJ-T Tyrone

Great question about Johan brain injury possibly effecting him and causing him to change. With some brain injuries, on some occasions the changes have been extreme. Despite age, interest or previous skill level, some people have become savants and in different fields like art, math, music or memorization.

I understand the focus on the candy, but it also can seem silly the more you think about it. It's easily doable in many many ways. And just because it's not immediately explained doesn't mean it can't be. How could Johan have poisoned the candy? - He may have poisoned the candy after the doctors left the bag open after eating it. He knew they would come back for it again. That's really easy to do. - Syringe through the bag on the rest of the bags and put them close by. The holes may not be noticeable and even if they are, they might not have noticed them. To avoid putting too many holes he could've kept feeling the candy from the outside with his hands and pierced the bag from the underside or some side that's not easily noticeable. He could have kept moving the candies inside over and over until they were piercable with one hole, and so he could've reused the same hole over and over again. Are you thinking hard enough? I can easily demonstrate this myself if you give me a bag of candies. - He could have given the doctors the candy himself. That way he could've also targeted whoever he wanted. - The kids were in the hospital during the 80s. The kids went missing multiple times. It was also clear that the hospital staff were bad at watching over the patients. CCTVs became open to the public in like the early 70s, and as you know with technology, there are always late adopters. Johan could've easily grabbed the muscle relaxant depending on the setting of the hospital. As to how a child can do that? Plenty of 11-year-olds can do that. I've seen 11-year-olds do crazier things. You underestimate children, and it's clear Johan is not a normal child. Now, the real problem is that if it's nitric acid that was used, then I think it's a plot hole for sure, because it has such a strong and pungent smell that it's hard to believe they kept eating it and didn't feel something was wrong. But then again, I can't confirm if it's just the English subtitles that said it's nitric acid or if it was also said in Japanese. If it's any other poison that is less smelly and has less of a taste (which does exist), then I think this is easily not a plot hole. The candies part is easily explainable. Alternatives to nitric acid that have less of a smell and a taste, can be found in hospitals, and could definitely make this work (I'm not a chemist, so I might be talking out of my ass. If someone is, please enlighten us): Benzodiazepines (like diazepam, lorazepam), Barbiturates (like pentobarbital), Neuromuscular blocking agents (like succinylcholine), Baclofen or similar muscle relaxants.

GOD THIS IS SO GOOD!!!! I read monster once like 4 years ago so I'm enjoying reliving it with you guys through the anime. I can't wait for the next one!

Devil_pls

Am I the only one who doesn't care at all how Johan killed the doctors of the hospital? I mean in general I get the question ofcourse of like; 'how did he do that' ? But I don't think its really something to ponder on more than like a minute or two because it ultimately isn't that interesting of a question and also not really that detrimental to the rest of the narrative. Its mainly used to for a dramatic moment and to establish how dangerous Johan is at the very start. Specifically in a story like Monster where over the course of time we will get way more interesting and philosophical in depth questions and ideas later on. But thats just my 2 cents and how I look at it.

Frieren The Hamburger Slayer

To be honest it’s never fully answered in the show, there are only hint’s and from there come the theories. I’ve personally always thought someone tried killing Johan and tried poisoning him but failed because the doctors ate them instead. 9 years later we see Johan start using the same method ( poison candy ) where he takes credit for everything while talking to Tenma. As for why someone would try killing an 11 year old child randomly ? Can’t say it or I will end up spoiling. Everything will make sense once you continue watching the show, the only thing that will stay as a theory is the candy lol.

Devil_pls

Yeah I completely agree with you. When its your first watch you will have a bunch of different kinds of questions that go in all kinds of directions. I guess I was just a bit taken aback by how much they did focus on this detail, both they in their reaction and the people here in the comments aswell. Its basically all they talked about in this video lol. Its just a bit blown out of proportion I feel like thats all.

Seni Adeyemi

The Tenma slander is crazy 😂

sleepymiffi

love u girls theorising. even if its completely wrong, makes it more fun tbh ! never stop

Daniel Molina

Now that you will live together this means we will get more drunk Q&As right?! RIGHT?!😃

Gaboxxy

There are also different types of syringes that with needles that are so slim that they could put holes so tiny through a bag that they would barely be noticeable if you aren't actively looking for them. And literally both syringes and nitrates are available in a hospital.

Robert Dirk H.

Personally, I'm a believer in the theory that the poisoned candies were for Johan. It seems the most logical to me after later plot twists :D
