Thanks for watching one of my favorite shows of all time! It’s easily in my top 3 best anime I’ve watched. “You’re gonna carry that weight”

This was my third time watching the show and the movie. It was easily my favourite spin around the solar system, and I’m glad you enjoyed the show so much!

For what it is worth, the creator of the show Shinichirō Watanabe has never confirmed Spike is dead at the end of the series. In one interview he said: "I've never officially said that he's died. At this point, I can tell you that I'm not sure if he's alive or dead. I think probably rather than being yelled at for killing Spike, I think ... people are more upset that I might make a continuation. " This was in an interview in 2006.

“I love a woman that can kick my ass” I always forget Spike was my spiritual teacher as growing teen.

When I was watching the movie (more specifically, when I looked at those golden butterflies in Vincent's hallucination), an old Chinese story called “Zhuangzi’s Butterfly Dream” came to my mind. The story goes like this: Zhuangzi, a philosopher from ancient China, dreams he’s a butterfly, floating around without a care in the world. But when he wakes up, he can’t tell whether he was Zhuangzi dreaming he was a butterfly—or a butterfly now dreaming he’s Zhuangzi. It’s all about how blurry the line between dream and reality can be, and how unstable our sense of self might actually be. And it's really interesting when you think about how this story can deeply connect to Vincent's (and Spike's) mental state, how they constantly question the reality they're in. I feel like the production team must have drawn at least some inspiration from that old story. The golden butterflies lingering above the tower at the end really added a touch of melancholy to the whole movie.
