In almost every other anime something would have interrupted Denji and Power in that moment. I love that Fujimoto lets Denji reach his goal so anticlimactically because his mental process of not feeling fulfilled is 100x more interesting than us watching him trying to grab boobs the whole series haha

In the manga when Makima is saying the casualties from the Gun devil, there's a breakdown of the deaths from a few countries, which I feel make you understand more how quick and destructive (he/she/it idk) was. So I'll write them below as a not so fun fact: November 18 10:00 am The Gun devil hits Japan for 26 seconds - 57 912 dead United States - 124 seconds - 548 012 dead (Almost half the deaths are from the US) Mexico - 2 seconds - 6 088 dead Canada - 7 seconds - 8 481 dead Hawaii - 0.4 seconds - 780 dead China - 37 seconds - 316 932 dead Soviet Union - 210 seconds - 155 302 dead India - 15 seconds - 29 950 dead Europe - who knows, I guess no one cares about us ;( Also I like how It's (I settled on using it 😌) is described almost like a natural disaster, as something incomprehensibly powerful.

Yeah, 12 episodes are not enough to get all characters and their stories. Still think waiting for Season 2 would have been better, but it's awesome to see how much you enjoy the show.

And there's another portion of the viewership that IS teenage boys who don't perceive it as SA and more as wish fulfilment because society has this tendency of brushing off the SA of young boys. You see that when news come out of female teacher getting with young boys and everyone jokes that they wished that was their teacher. Sad

Especially when some crazy chainsaw man is chasing you. And what are the odds that you're the first person he's ever chased with a chainsaw? He's definitely done it before. Kobeni is 20 and Arai is 22. Himeno & Aki's ages never said but we can guess Aki is likely close to 20-23 (but senior to everyone since he's been a professional for several years) and Himeno a couple years older than Aki, maybe 24-27

There are, indeed, people that look at those scenes and think "oh, fan service". I personally don't understand how with the way they're presented, and as was said it doesn't even look subtle to me, the show doesn't even try to hide it's intentions behind those scenes, but well.

I think it's notable that when Denji challenged the gross leech devil to a "Dream Battle" last episode to proved his dream of boobs is superior to more grandiose dreams, he loses and needs to be saved by Aki. I think it's great foreshadowing to how he would never have been satisfied after achieving that goal. And this is all reminiscent of his speech in episode 1 about feeling guilty for wanting a better life when he already had happiness living with Pochita. The conflict of wanting more for yourself versus being content to live in the moment and enjoy the life you have is the beating heart of chainsaw man for me and it really became explicit in this episode. "Am I always going to realize I was happier during the chase?" such a grounded theme for such an insane series

I think ppl have the right to feel uncomfortable if they don’t like watching it but something being uncomfortable bc of a scene doesn’t automatically mean the scene is done badly, It could just mean it’s not your taste or something they don’t like watching. But instead of thinking that they just jump to the conclusion that it’s just fan service and badly written.

Don’t care what people say.. that’s shit was borderline sexual harassment lol people forget Denji is a minor… while the main character has zero understanding of what’s really going on because all his life has been nothing but hell. At the same time it’s fucking depressing how some of the female characters are constantly harassing Denji… now I wish I had a Japanese friend because I’m also curious how Japan views sexual dynamics between people.. specifically people who are not even 18.

I mean...yes, obviously. Makima is grooming Denji to become her own personal slave by dangling sexual favors in front of him, it's not portrayed as something good happening to him. As for Himeno, it's too early for me to say anything about her motivations.

I like the discussion by the end where Denji having freedom would be the true "normal" that's being sought. Denji is bound to others and I think the idea of freedom was and is appealing to pochita because pochita and devils' existence in general is bound by the fear of others. The idea of freedom and living a normal life is something that's abstract. By principle of being alive, people's freedom is bound to others. If nobody and nothing else existed, there would be nothing to think about. For example, I can't freely think of a colour that doesn't exist because I haven't been exposed to it. Because freedom and knowledge is always bound to what is external, dreaming about being unbound is pretty cool. I could be wrong in what the mangaka intended, but my interpretation is fun to me.
