Quick question about the mechsploitation thing. Looking at ao3, like 90% of those stories seem to be crazy fucked up with all sorts of rape, dehumanization, and other unsavory themes. Is this story going to veer off into similarly dark territory or is it going to be a lighter spin on the genre more in the vein of APPTV? Either way, great start and I'm interested to see where it goes.

No, it's not going to go that far. No further than APPTV ever goes, and probably not even that far. There's likely to be elements that would be problematic in real life (Kali is already encouraging Mal to take risks in a life-or-death environment after all) but nothing so gratuitous. CPR's mechsploitation is much more literal, I guess you could say. More than anything else, it's her neural feedback pleasure loop is that's doing the exploitation.
