Hurricanes and tropical storms are named alphabetically after men and women and it alternates. One is a boy the next is a girl etc. Oddly enough since there are an even number of letters that means that every K name will be female and every L name will be male

That's how it is now. Pre- 70s (I think🕰️) they were always named after females. The premiss was things Sleak, Fast, Elegant &/or Destructive, were given female names. Wartime soldiers named their weapons femininely. Cars, boats, planes(when not named thematically) were also.
