I think it's more than that. Characters that never showed any romantic leanings, one way or the other, are are suddenly pansexuals or gay but since they never have relationships it's pointless and the fact has no impact on the story.

Please drop the "Woke" labeling. Racist usually use woke as code for Black people whom don't pretend discrimination isn't happening or don't accept being discriminated against. You hit the "Nail on the head" to make it as bluntly clear. As you did, literally! And "Woke" formerly SJW etc. is a good label if used in vile sarcasm for these types. "One Man's Opinion" but I think that entire movement is fake - short term pandering for social distraction and fraud. Long term it will do huge damage to the real progressive work of the last century, notably the 50s to the 90s by re-fighting all those old battles with the plan to lose. They are an INSULT to real Liberals, Progressives. Fashionable (fake) radicals in search of a CLUE.
