I think it's more likely that Netflix gives the producers 'creative control' and then THEY change things around to show everyone that it's THEIRS and they can do whatever they want. Ego is a huge problem in Hollywood. It used to happen to comic book adaptations all the time, until Sam Raimi made a move about the real Spider-Man from the comics and it was successful.
