Too true, really. Way back there was a "Bechdel Test" named after a militant lesbian of the name. She wanted as a straw man or should I say "Straw-Woman" for movies to have two female characters who were named who had a conversation that wasn't about a man and/or romance with a man. And the punchline was you could only name "Alien". So yes IRL there's probably ladies who'd be just like Hipstergirl. It's a Straw-Man though; Check out Roger Corman's movies - such as his 60s Poe adaptations, 70s Grindhouse and Women in Prison movies, onwards to 1980s sci-fi Star Wars rip-offs. Overall they had women named, talking, doing stuff without men needed - also plenty of racial and 'non-binary' representation since he filmed on the cheap mostly (70s) in the Philippines and just grabbed people for movies no care about "Race" or any nonsense. This is including major roles.
