Hi, I just began recovering from a gnarly stomach flu or something which put me in bed for a while, so I've had some time to consider what to do next.

Endings

For Lethal Company, I still have not been able to think of a proper ending, and my desire to create an ending is becoming desperate. I will soon reach an impasse. I've brought this up to friends and family, and no one has been able to give me a light bulb. There are many possible endings that seem obvious and may have fun gameplay, but they don't make sense or they aren't the story I want to tell. Then there are directions to take the story that are very compelling, but they are incomplete and ultimately lead back to the same place. I feel like I've created a paradoxical problem for myself to solve, and I'm digging my heels in until I do the impossible.

Welcome To The Dark Place, on the other hand, has a mostly complete ending which I think is the best ending I've made. I can't stop thinking about it because I'm so proud. I don't know if anyone else will care much about it though. Finishing the rest of the game is just a matter of committing the time to it and leaving Lethal Company alone for a while. I have a concept for a new interior which combines a bunch of ideas I've had since forever, but I don't feel ready to start on that yet, so shifting to WttDP might be the only option.

I totally understand the frustration. I hate the mind funk. Maybe the dark place will reinvigorate the mind juices! Either way, can’t wait to see what YOU have to make, i’ve enjoyed playing it steals, upturned, lethal company, and soon the dark place!!! thanks for making the coolest and most interesting games on the market. no pressure, make what you want to make!!!

ArKane

Hope you've been doing okay, man :) I have said this before, I hope you don't feel guilty about shifting for a while or anything, do it at your own pace! LC is in a good spot right now imo, it'll be a long long time before it even begins to get a bit stale. I'm looking forward to Welcome To The Dark Place a ton, too. Wish you the best, my guy!

Focusing on other project can make that light bulb appear ! You can take a break from lethal, you've made so much for the past 8 month, you deserve it

Lord Falconis

You know, there's no rule saying a game can't have multiple endings... :)

RainingLamppost

Deffo working on other stuff and getting some distance from a project can help a ton when coming back to it, Lethal is really great as it is so don't fret too much 👍!

Aster Starchaser

When I'm feeling stuck on a project, it can really help to take a break for a while and shift focus to another project, then come back to the first one later with fresh eyes. Sounds like WttDP is a good opportunity for you to do that! I'm looking forward to seeing more. ^^

I'll definitely be playing Welcome to the Dark Place when it comes out!! And as for LC, no matter what the large majority of the community says, I think a long break wouldn't hurt at all especially if it gives you time to not only work on what you want to work on, but also let some ideas bake in your head more.

gibbydiddy

super excited for wttdp!! I'd also like to say that lc having no ending right now creates this super cool effect, like all of us are Company employees irl, and not a single soul knows if there IS an end to such a hellish cycle of death. Its like im watching all my friends try over and over again to get out, and maybe some day way in the future someone's finally gonna come up with a way out, but that day is not today. Super grim but not entirely hopeless, it's perfect. Take your time and maybe a vacation to somewhere nice, you're doing great

I also talked with my friends who play Lethal Company about the idea of adding an ending to the game. Some said that the best update for this game would be an ending update, while others felt there was no need to add an ending at all. For some games, adding an ending is a very natural progression, but for this game, it usually makes sense to end with being kicked off the ship, so I think that’s why people have different opinions. I understand that deciding to add an ending is a tough decision. I hope you hang in there! 😀

I think its best you let the Lethal Company run on its own while you work on WTTDP, so as to give some room for thoughts. Maybe while you're working on WTTDP you'll hit a golden nugget of thought, or maybe you'll be refreshed and reconsider the direction you have with LC. Either way, best of luck

PlasmaDiffusion

I never fully expected lethal company to have any endings given it's just doing a job over and over until you're fired. Seconding what the above comment said, this totally feels like the kind of game that could have multiple endings. They could be fulfilling endings or a bunch of dumb ones like the Stanley Parable. Either way a break on it is well deserved.

some random animator

Hear me out: the apparatus thingy could be a super powerful bomb that nukes the entirety of gordion

Jalen Cene

All the options sound great. Id love to see more from either game.

Xander_&_Yalnif

Keep In an endless mode I'd say, but as for an ending? I'm not sure... there's so much Lore that I bet I don't know

when looking at lethal company's story, it always gives off the realization that there's nothing you can do, no matter how hard you work, the company's hunger will always grow too large to satisfy, no matter how badly sigurd's crew wanted to stop, they couldn't. i think if the player has so much hope that they try to drill into the facility, they're hope should be crushed by the realization of something unfathomably massive, something so absurd that the player realizes there was no point in attempting to get through the company wall, maybe they get pulled in and the player gets to briefly walk on the ruins of the golden planet, with zero hope, knowing the universe is at the mercy of this beast, then the door opens up, perhaps a hand extends? hope for saving this place is gone but maybe there's somewhere the workers can go to be free of it all? is there such a place?

Morgan Rowley

Yea I don't think anyone can tell you what to do or what not to do, and we don't know the end for you, but if you have ideas you're head strong about already, pursue those. The newest update was huge.

reamnos

Must be going around bc I missed two days of classes from a stomach bug too :(((

Shawn Rickrode

I believe the update you just released for LC will keep people occupied for a long while for you to work on WttDP. Have fun with it :)

I think lethal company's end game isn't necessarily whats important, from everything I've experienced with the game over its development, what's mattered the most was the journey, the steps you took, the obstacles you've overcome. For a game like LC you aren't a main character of a world changing story or a survivor of the end of the world. Your already past that. Now you work for the company digging through the dregs left over from humanity's golden age. Selling it to the all mysterious company. While you could break the cycle and leave, what good would that do you? There's no where for you to run to. You could end it all, but would it have any point? I feel that the ultimate choice of toughing it out and continuing to survive to meet that ever growing quota is our true goal, to make it just another day. Don't pressure yourself too much on something that's already so well made.

Wumfumblus

The stomach flu fucking SUCKS and I hope your recovery is quick!! I personally think that Lethal Company doesnt actually NEED an ending considering how fun its current playback loop is, but if you ever ARE to add an ending, it should definitely be an optional goal that players can choose to push torwards (E.G. getting parts for the drill under Gordion).

hey

Someone who helped me model had a tip that I've never forgotten. If you ever feel stuck on something, don't force yourself to do it, you're more likely to gain inspiration by doing something else rather than forcing yourself to think about it

jelly

i often find a bit of time away from something and coming back to it gives me a fresh perspective, so hopefully working on something else instead for a while will do that

Capt2000_price .

Add a riot shield to lethal company.

Here's an idea of how Lethal Company could end. Sigurd has been an historical figure in the game, and the story of the game should probably start and end with him. The last world to unlock or purchase would be titled 'Sigurd'. Kind of like Artifice isn't shown as an optional map, Sigurd would only be accessible after you've captured all of his tape artifacts on different worlds. Once that's completed, you have access to the world. The world wouldn't have a timer for scrap. It would act similar to the Company world, where you can spend as much time on the planet as you'd like. However, the Sigurd world starts to put together all the missing pieces. It explains the origins behind things like the coilhead, the butler, the ghost girl, why the company is gathering scrap from all these worlds, etc. It's an opportunity to weave a storytelling arc into the game that's been missing on recent updates (that were concentrated more on game play, items, worlds, etc.) Once Sigurd has been explored, the missions to the different moons take on a different tone. You still have to sell scrap to the company, but now there's a parallel story to complete that's up to you. It could be: 1. The Company is an entity serving a darker master, where the player's challenge is to shut down it's operations. 2. You are now tasked with taking control of each moon. It opens up new areas to the existing maps where a player can revive defense systems and deactivated areas that ward off some of the entities the player had previous fought. 3. The name 'Sigurd' is not a person, but an anagram to another riddle that sends players on side quests within existing moons. Just some rambling late at night here in Dallas. Hope that helps!

Glad you're feeling better. On the subject of endings, Lethal always struck me as a purgatory loop. Even death doesn't release them. So.. Event Horizon? Did we go through a black hole and end up here in this hell? Or were we PUT here for our crimes? Short circuiting the loop somehow.. activating something on every planet.. maybe something where our deaths actually count towards an end, we learn something each time we come back while also losing something.. memories? We have X amount of deaths to figure out the code to short the loop. I'm throwing ideas at the wall haha. I hope you find your little spark of inspiration! In the meantime, we're just enjoying the ride.

Happy to hear you're recovering well. To me, Lethal Company doesn't seem like the game to have a proper 'ending', sure there's questions that we would love to have answered at the 'end' of the game but I feel it doesn't have to be some big climatic ending sequence to get that across. Even just something like a finale endgame planet with some different mechanics and maybe with a unique interior/unique tilesets implemented in preset locations with lore or something would be enough, for me at least. Focusing on wttdp is a great way to decompress from all the time spent on lethal company and I'm sure in due time the answer to your problems with lethal's ending will come to you.

Please, I just beg you, don't sell the IP rights of Lethal Company to a heartless company that will only treat your game as a money farm. It's okay to take some time for yourself, I'm sure you and the community can come up with a perfect ending for LC. Your game is fantastic, one of the best experiences I've had playing games. Games that I love so much were sold to big companies and the game only declined after that, with bad and poorly made updates, several bugs and with very high prices. Your game is a masterpiece and I and certainly many others would be heartbroken if that happened. Your work is perfect and I'm sure the ending you come up with will be perfect too. Take your time and be well, you are important to all of us in the community. Take care! 🥰

I LOVE THE LETHAL OF COMPANY however (pls pls make a console port or put it on geforce) It could be difficult or you may not want to do it and that's fine but I HAVE FAITH IN YOU

radvi

i feel like lethal company doesn't need a ending, the ending in my opinion is basically just the cutscene where you get fired and sent off to space when failing to meet the quota
