Hi, I've finished making the enemy I was modelling and texturing last time I posted. There were many times I considered scrapping it and moving onto something else. This enemy and the new moon were making me feel like Version 50 is an absolute train wreck so far. But we played with it, and it is undeniably fun. The new enemy truly is a part of this cast of misfits--it feels like it's having a tantrum at the fact it was allowed to exist. I wanted Version 50 to be released by now, but I'm dealing with physical fatigue on top of major life changes and distractions.

Dead Seater's secret relation to Lethal Company

I still don't want to post the concept art for this enemy or the new moons I'm adding, so here is a video I found of Dead Seater, back when I hadn't built the house or anything.

I originally planned for Dead Seater to be about landing in your space ship and entering a giant factory on an abandoned planet. This was based off of a dream I had about a multiplayer game where I landed on a dusty planet with a giant, cylindrical, monolithic, growth-like factory that rose up into the clouds, and I was supposed to try to get as far in as possible; there were hundreds of different entrances from the outside, many of which led to dead ends or traps. I think the idea was that one player would control the factory, acting as the security systems, traps, and cameras, trying to catch you and kill you. This player could even shift hallways around and unleash monsters.

But at the time making a multiplayer game was unthinkable to me, so the idea was instead turned into a seamless, linear exploration game, kind of like Inside. But since I didn't have any ideas for what would happen in the factory or where it would lead to, I scrapped the idea completely again and changed the name from The Paradox Plant to Dead Seater.

That’s super cool! I’m only an illustrator but your games make me want to boot up unity/ blender and make something of my own. I adore the pixelated look

This is so cool! Always love seeing the history and changes your work has seen :)

Sushi

the fact that the idea for lethal technically came from a dream you had is so cool

Love seeing where some of the ideas that made it into your earlier and newer works came from! Continuing to hope for the best for you and your family and friends, and that your current developing will be everything you want it to be. :)

i only learned about dead seater after the upturned. its crazy to learn about the connection between that game and lethal company, but its also not so crazy at the same time. i feel like ideas often get intertwined, scrapped and somehow brought back to the surface when working on something creative.

Heya Zeekerss! I’ve been playing your past games since playing Lethal Company (currently going through It Steals and The Upturned!). I can’t wait to get to Dead Seater, especially with how awesome these games are. I love them very much and I’m excited to see more from you in general! As for what was posted in this post, I wholeheartedly relate with the feeling of progress being made and it feels like a train wreck until you test things in-game and it’s fun. It’s how I felt for an animation I was working on for a game, hehe.

Really cool to hear how one of your dreams served as an inspiration. Have any of your other games or concepts been made with that creative method?
