So recently I got a JC Leyendecker art book and the art nerdiness am I just had to do a piece based on his work. Specifically his advertisements for Arrow Dress Shirts (see pictures 2&3).

I’m thinking of moving the time period of Obsessed to around the 1920-1930s where the initial comic, Possessed, was in the late 1890s-1900s. I try not to be too specific since I’m more educated on Art History than Fashion History. The Female lead was designed around the Gibson girl (Designed by Charles Dana Gibson) which exemplified the modern ideal women of the time (someone who participated in athletics and self-fulfillment, but would never participate in that silly uncouth suffrage movement). All demure no mindful. And that worked for the first comic because she was the type of person that wanted to keep living to pursue her own self interests, but didn’t mind being possessed (literally and figuratively). For the next comic I want the power dynamics to change and for the passage of time and style to reflect that.

Anyways if you’ve gotten this far, thanks for reading my rant. I’m close to finishing the written script on this. Let me know if y’all would like a peak or if you rather wait till it’s all drawn out ;)

I really love how he's flat black! It makes it eerie in the best way. ❤️ As far as timeline I really love the 1890-1900 time line art. I also feel like the 20s is a tiny bit overplayed right now. No matter what you do though, I know you'll kill it!

I love this, all of this! Is there a way or place for me to read previous years installations of Obsessed that may exist? I'll also accept anything and everything you're willing to share of the process 😂 I'm not helping, but I'll support the heck out of you along the way! Lol

I’m glad you like it! Here is a link to the OG comic I did last year around Halloween. https://www.patreon.com/posts/91466570?utm_campaign=postshare_creator

The comic will still have line art, but I get what you mean about 20’s being overplayed. I’m definitely going to be leaning away from the flapper speakeasy mob aesthetic. She’s a cat loving librarian so that’s not her type of scene. Also I’m terrible at flat silhouettes popular at the time (I like my gals curvy) so anything I draw probably won’t be very period accurate 😅

I was meaning time-line lmao sorry. I just really like that time period fashion. But again I know you'll kill it no matter what.

Don't know where you are located, but you should look up the Haggin Museum in Stockton, California. There's a whole Leyendecker section with a whole selection of art, but also personal photo, notes, letters, etc. It's amazing. They even put out some holiday specific ones for christmas and leap year.
