Hey everyone!

We've had endless requests for hexes over the years and with some other big updates coming this year we wanted to start adding hex gridded versions to the maps. They'll probably be around 10ft as that seems more standard than the 5ft square grid. A big question remains though, flat topped hexes or pointy topped hexes? Check the image below to see the difference (might need to zoom in). And if you have ideas/opinions/questions, drop them below or on the Discord!

We seem to have a large LANCER fan base and we'll be making some Lancer focused maps in the new future. We're also designing some Lancer tokens for our upcoming Czepeku Sci-Fi Tokens project. Here's some sketches!

For anyone unsure, pointy is the same orientation as the standard Lancer grid and tokens from page 59 of the core book

I mean honestly I don't use embedded grids in my maps, and if I did need one I'd just use one of the variant overlays from a .vtt to add it in dynamically so largely indifferent on this, but if I did have to choose, the flat looks less obtrusive to me.

Hyperdrive Fleet

One of the reasons we haven't done the embedded hex grids until now was for this exact reason but I guess there's a lot of people who don't use VTTs.

I'm thrilled to hear about the Lancer maps. It's my main usage for maps :)

Flat really helps me if the image is landscape, I play on a TV vtt table. Your work is awesome! I have three patron subs and two of them are yours. Thanks for all your work!

So long as we keep getting gridless variants alongside whatever grids you decide to implement I don't have any complaints. :)

So I personally couldn't be more thrilled to see Lancer-focused content on here! It uses a lot of maps and I'd especially love to see y'all do some fancy karrakin-palace style map assets. I will say that I'd kinda recommend focusing on some sci-fi pilot tokens over mechs as they're a lot easier to do, more widely applicable to other systems and Retrograde Minis has kinda cornered the market on Lancer mech tokens. If you do go forward with the hex-focused tokens, I'd recommend adding some custom token frames designed for different Lancer token sizes (IE the size 1, 2 and 3 token borders)

Honestly? Neither. Both roll 20 and Foundry can auto imput hexes ontop of a map, and it can be a PAIN to get the roll 20 hexes to line up with the hexes on the map. Design with hexes in mind yes to that, pointy to match lancer, but I personally would also always use a version of map with out an on map hex print. That said if your doing a printing of an physical version, that's different, but for VTT's, i'd much perfere no-hex map

Acatalepsy

Glad to see more Lancer stuff! Will say that Retrograde really has everything in terms of tokens so I don't have a ton of use for that, but pilot tokens are great. Really I would just appreciate having more scale to work with; the maps don't need to be bigger in terms of raw pixels, but a scale where you can have a 30x30 battle at mech scale would be a huge asset.

We currently release about 15 tokens per week for the fantasy tokens, we imagine it'll be about the same for the sci-fi tokens, so there'll be plenty of time for us to make both mechs and pilots. :) Although we only launched in October 2024, the fantasy tokens are already up to 300 and there's so many customisable options for all of them. I think you'll enjoy what you see for the sci-fi tokens.

Seems ambitious, but I respect it! I do really recommend getting some special token frames for the pointy hex format if that's the case (Page 59 of the Lancer rulebook has some examples that should even be in the free version). Makes it a lot easier to track precise locations of stuff, and you could even design specific tokens to fit specific frames well.

Heya, just was wondering what the current progress on the tokens mentioned here is?
