I wasn't expecting it, but I think I like the fact that the version of this episode she reacted to had the incredibly shocking scene from the first episode of the 2nd season. That reaction was visceral. For those of us who saw the 1st season way before a 2nd season was even announced we had no idea that it would start off with a plot twist like that...... at least those of us who didn't look into the manga.

at 8:30 you mention Betty has left the house before and you are sorta right, she had forged a new contract with Subaru in that timeline which allowed her to follow him wherever he went, including outside. Her current contract is to guard the library at all costs

People misunderstand Re:Zero .Its not a cynical story just for shock value and to make Subaru suffer. Once Subaru knows everything he needs to do , he will achieve his goal. Its a story about hope and self-improvement. There was never a chance it would end with him not saving Emilia and the kids after everything he went through. That last part was weird though. All of a sudden they start showing us these flashbacks of a girl who looks like Ram except her hair is blue? WTF? Who the hell is Rem?
