Sooo, i was writing on the script for the Novel and stumbled across a "worldbuilding" Problem. Its a Cyberpunk Setting, with a huge City in its center. there are, besides some outer collonies, no other cities mentioned. but... considering the ammount of recourses needed for that kind of sociaty, i feel like i need to... expand that universo to make it more believable. do you have any ideas regarding this ?

Free Travel between the cities by normal citicens wont be allowed (cant say why but thats an important info ^^)

You could expand it, but you wouldn't necessarily need cities mentioned. You could vaguely talk about the colonies and mention they are used in some manner (by force, cooperatively with natives, etc.) to supply the main city. I have no idea how that fits in, but it also depends on how in depth you really care to address the supply needs of the city.

ÆNDRID

If you want the feel of a more oppressing status quo, I would suggest the presence of a travel company that has the absolute monopoly over movements between cities, controlling the flux of all individuals and resources, this would make also space for the creation of smuglers and pirates bands/consorciums

Yeah! Maybe even have some outer space operations (or anything related) mixed in with that.

Outfoxer

Corporatism, ie a company like what indrid suggests would be very fitting to a cyber-punk setting or plot. Due to there being a previous war in the lore/fiction, scavenging could also be some sort of cultural occupation.

Outfoxer

Scavenging itself could have its own hardships, the aforementioned pirates and vagabonds, as well as dangerous wildlife or harsh/barren environments.

Nïvhis

You can make a quick descrpition about the colony, maybe putting Something special in each one, like the way the Citizen live, etc . For the travel what about a private organisation with a part worker from each colony/cities. I must admit it's a little bit difficult while we're not in your mind and we Don't have too much information about your novel :(

You could make the city feel larger by dividing it into multiple subsections. (think Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, etc.). Each section could have its own purpose or hazards making travel between them difficult. “We don’t go to that neck of the woods. Mega-block 13-C is a Ripper hunting ground”
