"Young old" = 56 (Freeman's age when filmed).

I also feel like him falling into the water out of the pipe, plus the rain pouring down, is like a baptism back into freedom. I cry every single time I get to the end of this film, and I've seen it over a dozen times. The dialogue Red speaks at the end as he's on his journey to see Andy, and them seeing one another -- it's so beautiful. Absolutely one of the best movies of all time. If it wasn't up against "Forrest Gump" and "Pulp Fiction" I think it would have won some of the 7 Academy Awards it was nominated for that year. Great reaction, as always. A story for the ages. The film was not a success in theaters, though beloved by critics. Here's an article: https://www.slashfilm.com/710946/why-the-shawshank-redemption-was-a-box-office-flop-according-to-morgan-freeman/. That's where I saw it -- on TV -- and they did play it ALL THE TIME. It's possible I've seen it more than 25 times now that I think about it being on TV so much back then.

IIRC, the character of Red is Irish American and has red hair in the book.

I've never actually seen this. I don't really consider myself a film buff at all. I haven't seen many classics (Godfather, Scarface, Gone with the Wind, heck even Schindler's List) , so I am excited to join this journey with you

So glad to see more people watching this masterpiece of a film. It's such a good one. My fave live action film for a reason. At least when it comes to classics. :3
