You groovin to the theme song - honestly, same! - I love that song! One thing I'll say about Jayne is - if you went back through the previous episodes, you would notice him mention at least a couple of times that he does not consider Simon and River part of the crew - he says it outright at least once or twice. I think that's part of it, at least. Hearing Mal say so strongly to him that they are part of the crew surprised Jayne, IMO. I also think Mal would have let him get sucked out through the hatch until Jayne asked him not to tell the rest of them what he did - I believe that showed Mal that Jayne was actually remorseful for what he did. And I def think seeing Simon save that man, seeing what they did to River, and also seeing that the Feds were more than happy to screw him over - I feel like Jayne learned some stuff this ep.

Agreed I think i mentioned the foreshadowing with Jayne a few times as well or maybe i cut it out but I agree on basically all these points. Excited to continue feels like its starting to peak just at the right time

Excellent reaction/review. Stay safe. Stay shiny :)

You’re dead on about this show being the one that got away. Especially knowing how Whedon does story arcs over multiple seasons, as this show was intended (you’ll see when you get a couple seasons into Buffy!)—it’s a tragedy that we didn’t even get one entire season of this, let alone the whole planned run. It’s such a comfort show for me now. When I’m just chipping away at housecleaning or needing to fall asleep or whatever, I’ll pop on your YouTube edits of the show for background. I’m so excited you’re starting Buffy. It has different tones than Firefly but you’ll recognize a lot of similarities.

Ahhh my faveeee, gotta love the lore drop episode. And YES, definitely a turning point in the series both for the world/story as well as on a character level for River and for Jayne. It’s also a great moment for Simon getting to show how he can be of use to the team when it comes to the heist-of-the-week. The last scene with Mal and Jayne slaps so hard. There’s something important there imo when Mal changes his mind and lets Jayne live. It’s not because of the confession or the apology, but because Jayne asks “don’t tell them what I did.” It’s a secondary theme with Jayne that came up in Jaynestown too— he wants to be better than he is. He’s a shitty person, but he doesn’t want to be. I really wonder who Jayne would have wound up being if the show had run 5 seasons.

It is so incredibly fun to watch you react to Firefly! It has been so long since my last watch that all of the episodes seem new again, and that is amazing. I appreciate all of your insights, they make me enjoy the show even more.

Every time, every time, when he says "you turn on ANY of my crew, you turn on me. " gives me goosebumps.
