Happy New Year, Raymond! :) :)

When I watched this initially, I didn't really understand why Cassian got arrested and sentenced so strictly. This time, I caught that in the previous episode, the Emporer/Imperials cranked up sentences everywhere for even the smallest of crimes because of the stolen funds. Cassian joined that crew in his mind at that time only for the money. Now, the consequences of his actions have reverberated throughout the empire and bounced back upon him. He wanted to go in, get out, and walk away clean and free. Rebellion leads to consequences that often fuel the rebellion to burn even brighter. Yes! And they doubled everyone else's sentences. JFC.

Yeah, you're right: Basically, it sounds like they're "releasing" prisoners and then they're supposed to put them back in but on a different level/floor. A mistake was made and the guy was placed back on the same floor, which let everyone know what they were doing, so they killed them all.

I'm sure you know now, since you've finished the series, that the "by 3" episodes wasn't as strict in Season 1. After the heist, episode 7 was really a stand-alone to set up the second half of the season. Then it was 8,9,10 as the three-ep arc and 11, 12 were a two episode arc. They did it much more precisely as groups of 3 in Season 2
