I really enjoyed your reaction, I havent seen the theatrical cut in over 10 years, im quite surprised how much they cut from this, moments that are extreamly important to the story in my opinion or just explain the world alot more, if you ever gonna rewatch this one, watch the extended for sure. Btw. one thing I think is really cool but is almost never mentioned, the orcs we see making the weapons at Isengard are the actual smiths who made the weapons for the movie, just in makeup ofc.

The movies were made in a 13 month span. They filmed all 3 movies at the same time. The filming never stopped which is insane

This is a bit late, but Arwen's father Elrond is a half elf, and he was blessed with the choice of living as a man or as an elf. His brother chose to be mortal, and is the ancestor of Aragorn. Arwen is talking about making the same choice when she talks about binding herself to Aragorn. Another family connection in the characters, Galadriel's daughter is Elrond's wife, and Arwen's mother.

Honestly, I say just read the books. Most of the cuts for the theatrical version help the flow of the movie (not all but most), and some additional scenes aren't that great, mainly the end of Sarumon, which was clunky. I think it was so clunky due to it significantly deviating from the books.

1:38:15 man you hit the nail on the head. Tolkien intended hobbits to represent the pure simple honesty of normal everyday people. You nailed down the role of Gandalf as well, he's not they're for his power, he's a source of wisdom and guidance. Look forward to catching your other reactions. 2:18:00 so one thing to think about, all of these characters have known gandalf for either their entire life, or for decades, centuries, and in the case of legolas millenia, even Boromir knew him although he was closer to his brother Faramir. Watching them all fall apart when he falls is so goddamn emotional, he was not just their greatest ally and hope against saurom, he was a friend and counsel to them. I'm crying right along with you, and I've seen this a ton.

Since no one else pointed it out, one last fun fact. The orc boss dude actor accidentally threw that metal prop knife directly at Vigo Mortensen's face, and he blocked it with his sword for real.

can confirm, I saw in interview once where they said this. The prop knife was supposed to miss viggo by like 2 meters and then they would edit it so that it would look like viggo actually hit it but he actually did it for real and it made the final cut.

fun fact. in the shot at 41:13 theres actually a car driving in the background which accidentally made the cut. Just like the starbucks coffee cup in the last season of Game of Thrones

If you ever get the urge to rewatch these again on your own definitely try out the extended editions of each. They each have extra scenes that just add more to the story especially Aragorns.
