Actually, the work on this new project started before the sandals, because I needed more time and experience for this. 

I wanted to upgrade my fursuit paws a bit and give them a proper sole. Before, the soles have just been plain flat (check the pictures for comparison). I wanted to give them some texture and cushion. However, this has been proven to be more difficult than anticipated. I was in contact with several fursuit makers in order to gain some insight on how to do it. Only a few makers attempted so far to make a full sole like this as fursuit paws are usually beans sewed onto fur.

First of all I had to find some durable yellow (faux) leather which was more of a lottery than anything. Thankfully I finally found something that was good looking and scrub resistant. As a second step I needed some orange fur with the same color, thankfully my maker MFY could send me some extra fur! And as a third step I needed some materials as cushion and as backside to sew all together.

I sew (with a sewing machine) the leather together with some durable felt and left some openings in the felt to put in the matching cushioning. I made sure the cushioning was evenly distributed and closed the openings. Then I cut the leather into the shape of the paw and left around 2cm of border around the sole shape to sew on the orange fur. I then sew the whole thing against the suitpaws and with a pet hair trimmer I trimmed the extra fur. In the end I had to adjust the sandals a bit to make them fit again.

Of course the bare soles are more delicate now, so they can only be used inside and preferably on carpet only. But of course in return they are super soft, wide and huge now and faces sink in great~ ;)

This pushed me to the limits of my caftiness, but I learned a lot about fursuit making in the process. :) A lot of experimentation went into this project until I finally figured out what looks and works best.
