I've had a few others stories bouncing around in my head for a while. I've written a few first chapters and moved on. Before I get into the description of the stories, I just want to make sure everyone knows that the options here are something I'm going to write for fun. On the side. After I've finished my weekly Newt and Demon chapters. I knock those out as quick as I can, and I'm glad I do it. I haven't slept well in a few days (toddlers + teething), so I'm nice and caught up.

I'll give a short description of each idea, and you vote on which one you'd be most likely to read.

Anyway.

Story one (Apocalypses Farmer):

System: Multiclass focused on skill synergies between classes.

MC: farmer/earth mage build.

Plot: Farm stuff, fight off monsters in post-apocalypse Miami.

Tone: between serious and SoL

Story two (Retired):

System: Multiclass focused on skill synergies between classes (same as farmer)

MC: Retired Archmage

Plot: Retire from adventuring, run around with an old friend for funsies.

Tone: leans serious.

Story three (Soul Slayer):

System: Modified N&D system of cores. Different level up system and no stats.

MC: Large weapon specialist. No magic. Cursed with something that attracts monsters.

Plot: Wake up a long time after the apocalypse and survive.

Tone: All the way to the serious side. Lots of fighting. Lots of people dying. Bad vibes.

Story four (Class Consultant):

System: Multiclass focused on skill synergies between classes (same as farmer)

MC: Scholar class, gains the "Class Scholar" class.

Plot: Run around the countryside, advise people on which class to take, write a food blog. Another world fantasy setting.

Tone: SoL no bad vibes

I really enjoy the idea of both 1 and 4, with 4 being my favorite. Idea 3 sounds fun since it's no magic and large weapons just grinding away. 2 is probably my least favorite even though it also sounds fun, mainly because it's about a mage which while I love magic it's just so common in stories lately.

Colin Clark

I think 3 sounds really good because of the curse aspect.

class consultant obviously the best, it'll be like MHA, every new episode will be a crazy new set of powers

David Zimmerle

That's part of what I like about it, but the thing I love most about N&D is that it's not the usual combat story and is focused on mostly the characters and crafting.

I don't think the idea of Class Consultant has been done before. The closest I can think of is a Skill Trainer book that got dropped on royal road a while ago. So both interesting and unique at this point in time.

I liked class consultant better than Apoc Farmer, but voted for Apoc farmer because of the food blog. :/ Though I guess the food blog part would be find if it was just reviewing the taste and not how to make it.

None of it is in stone and I don't do any plotting before writing. As it lives in my head, the MC travels around to different fantasy towns to help people evolve their classes. They have a short piece in a publication in the capital that reviews the food, but it's more of a culture article. Yeah, no recipes. I can't cook to save my life. Apoc farmer is a weird one, because it isn't forming properly in my head. I've got the intro and the stakes, but the page-by-page stuff isn't coming to me. Same problem with Soul Slayer and Retired. Class Consultant is the only one that works with my current audience, and has a lot of legs. Start with a multiclass MC Scholar/Scribe and have them go to a lot of different places. We'll see a lot of different classes (the system would provide near-infinite classes). The focus would be on research, tracking down people's ancestry, learning about every culture in the world, although combat is undecided. Any combat would be done themed to the MC, so it would be something weird like writing spells onto scrolls.

Edwin M. Griffiths

Yeah, you're right. 2 feels a bit rote. Class Consultant is the obvious choice, because it works with my current audience. Perhaps I can add a bit of combat into that one.

Edwin M. Griffiths

Absolutely true. I'd structure it to be a few cases per "book". For every arc, we'd see a new person, or people, who can't figure their classes/skills out. MC would do a lot of research to figure out how to force the evolution. Heritage, stat distribution, and personality will all play a part in how they evolve.

Edwin M. Griffiths

It is the same principle of n&d, right? Take a "boring" idea and make it work. How could the POV of a scholar possibly be interesting? Characters, Progression, Fun.
