I remember when I first saw the finale, I was quite sad that Oleg ends the series in jail - I was expecting that Stan would do something to help him, but reflecting on it now it seems to fit better as is. One of the key themes that this show has shown repeatedly is that the people in this world of espionage don't get happy endings - the best they can hope for is an ending where they survive, which is shown for all our main characters: Stan loses his best friend and now has to live with the idea that Rene might be a spy, Oleg is in prison for the foreseeable future, Henry and Paige lose their parents, Philip and Elizabeth lose their entire lives. But more than that, the effects spread to those who know them even if they aren't in that world themselves: Henry now has to come to terms with (almost) his whole life being a lie, Oleg's family has to deal with him not coming home, etc. As both Stan and Philip both realised last season, the espionage world is ultimately destructive to everyone in it.
