That 7x7, 7x8, and 7x9 run is one of my faves of the show! Ugh so good!

This is a great follow-up to the last episode. Can't really say too much about it now, though. Looking forward to the next one. Well okay. I do have to give a shout out to some of the more humorous moments in what was overall a dark and mysterious episode: Anya: I'll bite your ass! Xander: It wouldn't be the first time.... Buffy: Actually Billy Idol stole his look from.... Club vamp: Is that all I was to you? A one bite stand? Singer: Man, I hate playing vampire towns.

I am appreciating S7 much more watching with Cass. I've asked friends to join for a watch-along, but that's a big ask for a 7 season show, and it isn't everyone's jam. So excited to watch the rest!

I love how Aimee Mann is the only non-fictional Bronze performer in the series who both has a spoken line and knows about vampires.

Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

You just know that one of the writers had that "one bite stand" pun in the chamber since, like, early season 2 waiting for the right moment to fire it off.

Proud of you for picking up that the harmonica tune was the same that Spike was humming. Don't think I've ever seen a reactor get that the first time. Impressive

Goddang that’s a good Aimee Mann cameo

Angel has only had his soul since 1898. When he first needed to feed afterwards, he drank from a woman but only enough to nourish himself - he left her alive and ran away. A few years later, he tried to rejoin Darla, Dru and Spike but couldn't bring himself to kill most people. He fed on rapists and murderers to convince Darla that he could still be one of them, and if you remember his flashback episode from Season 2 of Angel (the one that coincided with the Spike flashback episode in Buffy S5), he was trying to protect innocent victims from Darla. When he got caught out, he ran away to America and lived in isolation for 100 years. By the time he's found by Whistler before being introduced to Buffy, he's living on the streets feeding on rats. Some people like to unfairly dogpile on Angel (usually to try and prop up Spike), but the thing is that he was dealing with something completely unprecedented with no support system whatsoever. He didn't have anyone to help him or guide him, and he was pretty much just existing for most of the 20th century. Let's not forget that when he first tried his hand at being a hero in the 50's, he got lynched by a paranoid mob. Spike at least has Buffy there to guide him - without her, he'd probably still be a gibbering mess.

Great job of maintaining your focus through all the planted doubt and misdirection. I know I was badly confuzzled when Fake Buffy showed up smiling and approving of Spike's feeding.

Giles cliffhanger!

JBK405

This is a great episode overall, but I spent the whole time waiting for your reaction to that final scene with Giles and that swinging axe. I think the conversation between Buffy, Willow, Dawn and Anya about Evil and Telling the Truth is very important. Plenty of evil people did evil things by telling the truth. Plenty of evil people also did evil things by lying. Just because they're evil doesn't mean they always lie, but it also doesn't mean they're always telling the truth. You need to judge each particular situation on its own merits.

Angel wasn't killing people after he got his soul back. It was way more nuanced than that.

Steveo

Yeah we see him with Darla in Five X Five on Angel right after he gets his soul and he can't kill the girl in the alleyway.

Dave Cruickshank

We're about to enter my favourite spell of episodes that really defined the dynamic between Spike and Buffy. Can't wait to see Cass react to them.

Martin Gardner

Here’s me at 44 very concerned you referred to 48 year old Anthony Head (as he was at the time) as an old man :-(

For folks who don't know musical guest Aimee Mann, she's still putting music out today, but her "one-hit-wonder" claim to fame was this seriously great mid-eighties tune: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uejh-bHa4To
