Let's see, so gaining love to get our transformation seems to be what we need, but we are doing it in the wrong way, only one thing I can think of right now that may work faster, kissing him........let's ask him if he would be OK with that.

Might have to cuddle all night for enough love to just use the siren form to check on the object, But maybe pass the time with stories of the other dragons we've met along the way, like spike and his hybrid daughter, and little timber dragon. Then hear some stories from him. If the object isn't useful maybe we can get enough love to tunnel in with diamond dog form.
