To be fair, the Red Witch in Game of Thrones birthed a better version of Stannis...so, same ballpark. :D

Biss, the genre of these types of movies is called "Body Horror". Movies that display violent distortions of the human body. There are actually quite a few of them. Some other examples are The Fly, The Thing, and of course The Human Centipede. I'm not sure if I agree with your star rating but it wasn't a bad movie. The birth of the boob was a little much. I Will give it to Demi Moore for appearing nude though, she does look great for being 62.

thanks for reaction

Yeah the main reason why I recommended this is just like you said, a very different kind of movie. Or least it's not the typical Hollywood movie that have been released of late. So thanks, glad you got a chance to see it

This was my first watchalong with you, great choice! I think of the movie more as a fairy tale in that is has the same sort of logic and magical happenings just with a coat of science over it. As Andrew said it's a body horror movie and there are quite a few out there that range from the rather tame to the really gross. On a scale of 1-10 I'd say Substance is a 7 or 8. If you want movies that are as gory or more so (or wish to avoid them) check out The Thing (1982), Society, and The Fly. As for the ending I didn't care for it the first time I watched it but on rewatch I really felt like it tied everything together and made its point. Was fun watching this with you
