Loved your reaction, good job. Personally I love this movie, not only is the camera work, the sounds (or the lack of, many scenes dont have any noise at all), the "on the edge" all the time, the acting. It leaves you in a very strange mindset, its eary, its creepy, its unease, its more of those things. The director, Giorgos Lanthimos, has a couple more of those extremly weird uneasy movies and they are "good" in the sense of making you think.

Yes this is the kind of movie I wish movie studios would do more often. Yorgos Lanthimos has a very unique style to filmmaking that is thought provoking, ambitious, strange (but in a very interesting way), and in the case of this film unsettling. I think this movie can be categorized as a horror movie however it doesn't rely on jumpscares. The character development and storytelling is done in such a way that is creepy as hell. And all the actors deliver excellent performances in this as well. 5 out of 5 stars. Loved the reaction.

The movie is based on a greek tragedy about Iphigenia who is the daughter of King Agmamemnon. When the king kills the sacred deer of Goddess Artemis, he is told to sacrifice his daughter Iphigenia to make things right. Steven is the King and Martin is Artemis in this movie I really feel this type of storytelling is meant to be open for interpretation. By that I mean, the narrative doesn't tell the viewer exactly what is happening. It allows the viewer to come to their own conclusion. So, We know why Martin does these horrible things, he blames Steven for being drunk while operating on his father and thereby failing to save his fathers life. I think ultimately Martin is trying to get Steven to accept responsibly for his mistakes. And we see throughout the story Steven's pride won't allow this to happen. Both Martin And Steven have a God complex. Steven, the heart surgeon literally has the power to save lives, (the savior). Martin sees this in Steven and tries to take this power from Stephen by forcing him to sacrifice one of his family members and accept responsibly for his mistakes. Steven's pride and desperate attempts to save his reputation force him to do whatever Martin wants . Martin's influence on all the family allows him to establish his own power over them. Anna tries to bargain with Martin at one point but Martin, like God cannot be bargained with or threatened. And Kim relationship with Martin mirrors those people in real life, who's loyalty to God is unbreakable.. And she truly believes that Martin will cure her of sickness that he gave her. Bob in the story is the sacred deer, an truly innocent person who did nothing to deserve death. So how does Martin make the kids sick? maybe thru psychological manipulation he convinced them that despite how perfect and privileged their lives appear to be, they were a deeply dysfunctional family. The way they talk with each other is robotic and emotionless. Everything about their lives is empty and hollow. I think Martin recognizes this and uses this knowledge to psychologically manipulate them into believing the unbelievable. Anyways, sorry for writing a novel here. Movies like this, the thought provoking type of movie that this is, really get me going.

WTF IS THIS MOVIE

I loved this movie!?? The acting was incredible. The filmmaking and score were also great. I agree with you with the chatgpt comment. Everyone spoke as if (in the best possible way), the dialog was written by a 12 yr old. Everyone spoke in exact mostly truthful statements or questions with no emotion..just the needed information. Ex: I am 12 years old today. It is my birthday. I will eat cake at my party. It is chocolate cake.....So glad I saw this. Thanks for all the content!
