Love the reaction, goodjob Bissy. One thing to note though. Around min 42 to 45 and 51:40 to 53 or so. Your voice /sound is so low, it’s hard to make out what you said. But it’s normal on other times. Might be because of the loud scene sound/ music but yeah. Was difficult to hear what you said during those times

The big beautiful building is the Kremlin in Moscow and the leader was General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (like the leader of the entire country) Mikhail Gorbachev.

And that 400 rubles bonus on their paychecks to pretty much kill themselves in a pitch black maze was the equivalent of $1,723 USD in today's money. And the radiation was so powerful those 3 men died before even reaching there destination.

Thank you for the reaction from the perspective of someone who is so close to the area of this tragic event. I can see how this makes you so emotional, because without those selfless sacrifices the devastation that would have happened would be unthinkable.

Just emphasizing that Chernobyl, while it was the worst nuclear accident in history, it was not the only significant nuclear accident to occur. Accidents occurred in Japan, UK, US, Canada and France, as well, starting as early as 1952. So, this Chernobyl documentary should hit home for more than just the people in the areas surrounding Ukraine. The first link is from the History Channel and lists the 6 worst accidents in chronological order. The second link lists the top 10 worst accidents in order of significance. https://www.history.com/news/historys-worst-nuclear-disasters https://www.worldatlas.com/disasters/history-s-10-worst-nuclear-disasters.html

What happened in these accidents, while nasty, is nothing compared to how close we've supposedly come to jeopardizing the whole damn planet. It sounds like we have been really, really lucky. Have others gotten that impression, as well, or is it just me?

You look wonderfully evil in this thumbnail

Man this was a really good episode. The undeniably hard decisions that had to be made...I can't even imagine. Last episode I said I really hated the lies. This episode to me had 3 really different lies in it. The first self lies trying to save your reputation and place blame on others I hated. The other 2 lies I found very comforting and noble. The first being the self lie the nurses had to have told themselves about possibly being ok in regards to working with the radioactive people and clothing to try to help save their fellow man. The 2nd is the lie the gentleman told the other people at the bar, knowing full well telling them the truth would have done no good as they were blockaded in that city. Thanks for all the content!

I was 15 when this happened. All of a sudden all playgrounds were prohibitet to enter bc of radiaoctive rain from Tschernobyl. of course a 15yo doesn't give a shit about this warning. so yeah, we were playing on this playgrounds with >50000mSv of radiation. I still wonder what it did to my body. Also your voice seems to be very quiet in the 3rd part of the episode,

The shortest distance between Chernobyl and Sweden is 732.11 mi (1,178.21 km.

There are 2 options for a LIQUID RADIATION CLEANER. 1. Heavily contaminated objects are decontaminated using strong chemicals," such as nitric acid and permanganate, These chemicals can bind to radioactive metals in a process called chelation and render them inert. 2. Radiacwash liquid is used in areas vulnerable to radiation like laboratories, hospitals and reactor facilities. It is known as the most effective solution for the purpose of decontamination, allowing a safe and fast elimination of the spectrum of radiation.

Boron is element 5 in the periodic table, before Carbon. Usually looks like a dark grey crystal or powder

Bisscute, every one of your reactions are so well done. I always enjoy listening. BTW, I am an old crippled man from las vegas, Nevada in the USA. I frequent the casinos enough to receive free rooms. If you ever want to visit Las Vegas, I would love to pay for you to fly out here and enjoy this great city. You would have your own room so that you don't have to worry about any expectations on my part. Plus I am really a crippled old man and you could certainly beat me up if I was to get out of line LOL.
