Honestly, knowing the Briarwoods' backstory is a lot less about making you feel compassion for them and lot more about what happens in the future/some narrative parallels that are clear in the original story and may come up later. Don't feel sorry about not feeling any remorse or anything for them - they're set up wonderfully despicable and un-redeemable and it makes for an interesting challenge for Percy's/Vox Machina's ethics.

Oh no, please, hate Delilah. She is one of the most evil characters ever. But I think the backstory is really important to show that she is the one who literally has the power in the relationship.
