Love this movie so much. If you want some more Constantine the 2014 tv show is very good. It got done very dirty and was cancelled after 1 season but definitely worth watching if you want to see another take on the lore.

Helion

Fun fact: Rachel and Keanu had shared the screen before, in a movie called Chain Reaction. Morgan Freeman was also in it.

Errolowl

And maybe watch Arrow while they are at it? A person can hope! :)

I’m not gonna lie. I thought this movie was shit when I first saw it, but maybe it’s better than the next second time. I do like Keanu Reeves, though, you should definitely take a look at point break, Keanu, Reeves, Patrick Swayze, and Gary Busey.(before the bike accident).

djKENTO

I'm waiting for the 4K blu-ray to get here.

dragon keep

A horror movie you need to see is number 23 do see who is in it just watch it blind

Nathan Ross

Constantine was shot with PG13 in mind but the MPAA gave it an R mainly because of the demons. Francis Lawrence mentioned if he knew it would be rated r he would have shot it like so

Constantine is a character with a lot of range for appearances in other DC universes. The original comic series was call Hellblazer, but I don't know if they still use that name or if they've changed it to Constaine now that the character is more well known (thanks in part to the decent TV series and the wonderful Sandman series). Although in the Sandman show they genderswapped the character--I'm not sure why, maybe to avoid connection to the TV show? It works tho. Constantine is also one of the few characters Keanu Reeves has expressly stated a strong desire to play again. Been rumors on and off for years about another movie with him. EDIT: sorry, had to add--where was the love for Tilda Swinton as Gabriel? 🤣 I think it's funny of all the reaction I've seen to this movie, i think yall are the first to not get excited to see her onscreen. But, to be fair, there was a lot of discuss with movie because of the lore, etc. Also, Gavin Rossdale of Bush as Balthezar? This movie had a great cast who all played their roles well.

I read years back that Chaz was already an Angel sent to watch over John.

I've always thought this movie is underrated. Now it has an aura of cult-classic behind it, but it was really not a box office hit. A sequel would have been interesting and Keanu absolutely was up for it back in the day. The world building is excellent and overall the script is relatively tight. I agree it does throw a lot at you quickly and there is a lot happening at the same time. This is both a strength and weakness at the same time. The audience clearly has to pay attention and every detail isn't explained, which people can find annoying. I lean towards the other end of that spectrum and very much enjoy that I have to keep up and draw my own conclusions about the world. Nothing is really on the nose, you have to figure out how things work on your own. Basically, it is assumed that the people watching aren't morons and that is fantastic. Also, there isn't really anything nonsensical. The acting overall is very good. Keanu and Rachel are excellent in their respective roles but pretty much every character is believable and every actor does something interesting with their screentime. Even the shorter appearances gives us something new and I like that to a great extent. The horror element is well done and works well. There is a sort of creepy feel throughout the whole movie and the tone is interesting. They could have taken it even further, but I can understand why they didn't. The effects are unexpectedly good as well, especially considering the timeperiod in which it was done. 2005 was definitely a time with a lot of CGI, but it works a lot better here than other things from the same period. Overall it looks really good and some sequences still look very very good. I consider this movie a hidden gem, flawed in some ways but still able to shine quite a lot. Also, if you enjoy the character, I highly recommend the series Constantine. The tone is in many ways different, but it is in many ways closer to the comics and highly enjoyable. It is part of the Arrow-verse and a lot of those shows are worth checking out. Some other interesting films with powers and horror elements: The New Mutants (2020) Donnie Darko (2001) Sphere (1998) From Hell (2001) El laberinto del fauno (2006)

In the discussion at the end you mentioned how you wish several of the MCU films took a more “R rated” approach, and leaned into the horror elements. Well, 5 or so years ago there were heavy rumblings that Disney and Marvel were considering a “Dark Marvel Cinematic Universe” shared/continuous cinematic universe, that would be self-contained whether it acknowledged the main MCU or not. It would’ve been a series of connected films anchored by their horror, supernatural, magical and more violent characters. The main films likely would have been Dr. Strange, Blade, Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Scarlet Witch and the Punisher with intermittent films dedicated to and/or appearances in the main films by characters like the Black Knight, Agatha Harkness, Moon Knight, Midnight Man, Death, Dr. Voodoo and Dracula. Obviously those plans were scrapped at some point, but if the average box office gross of the MCU films continues to trend downward they might have to end the MCU and pivot back to a DMCU moving forward.

Loved this movie. There was a brief TV adaptation that tried to stick closer to the original character (blonde, British) that was actually really well done.

Eddy Lheat-99

Gr8 reaction please watch DC animated movies that are great and have Constantine in big roles

Michelle MacNeily

I love this movie! Peter Stormare who plays Lucifer, aside from other movies, if you’ve ever played the game Until Dawn, he’s the psychiatrist. Agree about the r-rating, it’s why Blade works so well.

TGrimace

As I'm sure other people have mentioned, a good followup to this is the movie "The Prophecy" with Christopher Walken :)

Thurein Minhtet

I really enjoyed this movie but it's not Constantine. True DC fans know that the CW's version is the real John Constantine ripped from the comics. Mr. Matt Ryan with his blonde hair, tan trench coat, and English accent.

Kyle

Especially to see Aragorn in quite a different light.

Jackson Napier

Yall should watch brightburn
