THE ANIMATRIX (2003) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Yall were asking all the right questions in this one. Hope to see you guys react to Ex-Machina and the Blade Runner duology as well, which makes you think even deeper about this topic.

Now that everyone understand what the Animatrix means to the trilogy; How do they feel now about the hobbit Trilogy and the Rings of Power to the lord of the rings??!??!!

Chris VanLoon

The Hobbit should've never been a trilogy. Two movies at best. They inserted scenes from the Silmarillion to fill out the run time. And the Rings of Power took huge liberties because they didn't have enough source material to fill out the show. Personally, I don't buy what they did to drag out Sauron's storyline.

Finally got to your reaction to this and Revolutions. I have to say, Ari is right when he says seeing at least the Second Renaissance shorts is a must before Revolutions. I saw Reloaded and Revolutions in the theatre on the first days and absolutely loved bofh, I was glad Animatrix came out between Reloaded and Revolutions. Having the background of what led to this totally recontextualizes the end, when humans and machines work together to solve a common problem (Smith). Both races were done for if not for Neo giving the machines the link to basically upload the anti-virus to kill Smith. Makes complete sense they'd agree to a ceasefire after The One giving his life not only for Humanity but machinekind. I'm also in agreement on the "Matriculated" short. It wasn't truly meant for us to understand what was happening but we could see the machine did. Matriculated basically means to enroll or join into something - often meaning university - so the machine is having that door opened to it. And I definitely think when it tried to save the main girl by uploading her, her mind automatically rejected it because she knew this was not a real place and could not survive there. The machine "died" the same moment she did, so maybe it had a similar realization thru her that what it experienced there was not real. Rather just shut off than go back to its reality. I haven't seen this in full in maybe 15 years, so it was great to watch it with you guys. Last time I did was when they released the Matrix Ultimate Edition to Blu-ray in 2008. Which is well worth the money for the behind the scenes and numerous documentaries included.
