TRON (1982) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION – WATCH ALONG

Is Tron a masterpiece of a film? No. Is it iconic? Yes. When I saw you guys were reacting to this I thought it would be interesting to see if I would be watching this with rose-tinted glasses or if it would actually hold up. I'm very glad to see that it held up. The acting isn't great, despite both Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleiter giving it a lot of camp fun. The writing could clearly improve and some of the effects could definitely use an upgrade. But honestly, there are so many good things with this film. Let's break it down: The story. The actual story is (for it's time especially) so innovative. Like you noticed, The Matrix is surely the better version of this story, but this is very smart and very fun. The aestethic. My god this still looks damn cool. The whole computer world is just awesome, neon and gorgeous. The way it's shot is fantastic and I can't complain even now, because I would say there are still films today that couldn't handle this kind of aesthetic. The expectation of the viewer. We are expected to actually understand what the heck is going on half the time, with very little exposition. I admire the bravery in that. The switcheroo. The fact that we meet Flynn and we realize quickly that he is in fact our protagonist if great. But he isn't Tron. He will never be Tron. Tron is in fact the best of the programmes, the one we in fact should be rooting for. But Flynn is so darn charming and is in fact vital. He is in many ways our Sam from Lord of the Rings, completely vital even if Tron is the one that will finish the job. Overall, it's still a lot of fun, still gorgeous and the story is still somehow relevant even tody

This film was released the year I was born. It wasn't until I was 4 or 5 years old that my parents sat me down with them in the family room to watch this on VHS video cassette. It was fantastic for its time. I haven't seen Tron Legacy yet, but I do have a copy ready to view.
