No TV and no beer make Homer... something something...

That final shot will always stick with me. He's always been here. He'll always be here.

Classic for a reason. This is how you do a "haunted house" movie. The slow, insidious dread as already haunted people are fed on and their worst fears exacerbated. Those creepy moments with Jack Nicholson staring into the audience's soul through the camera...masterful. I like Stephen King, but this is definitely one of his stories made better by the reimagining of Kubrick.

The Shining. Kubrick has some real masterpieces under his belt. This film is one of them. The camerawork, the long complicated shots, the intense score and the choices overall are very interesting. You don't have to agree with all of them, but they are definitely intentional. I have to say, since I hadn't seen this for such a long time, the build up was even slower than I remembered and I adore the film for it. A story like this needs a long slow build up since so much of it relies on tension instead of shock and Kubrick shows here he has mastered it. I also very much enjoyed that you noticed the hotel shifting form and being bizarrely built. It's a genious touch from Kubrick. When you talk about The Shining you have to talk about Jack Nicholson. His performance in this is so charismatic, so intense, so despicable and so terrifying all at the same time. Jack is clearly a man on a descent to hell and Nicholson manages to take us completely with him. Duvall as well nails it, almost managing to make us annoyed with her because of her naivity and her helplessness. Danny Lloyd is the one that, for me, has moments that aren't 100% believable, but for a child actor he performs very well. Especially I think he manages being "Tony" very well, he feels very disconnected at those times. All in all, a movie somewhat ahead of it's time but still very watchable today as well. Thank you for getting me to watch this again!
