TRON: ARES (2025) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION – WATCH ALONG

Comments

Donna Castellano

I hope you guys see my comment because I wasn't able to watch with you guys until today. I saw this movie 4 times in the theatre within the span of like a week and a half. The last time I saw it, it was in 3D, which I usually don't like, but this movie takes on a whole other level of cool in 3D. Those opening credits with the news reports were trippy AF. And it's one of the few movies that used 3D in service of the film. I'm really bummed y'all had to wait for the channel to watch this because 3D would've knocked your socks off. I know this got bad reviews and Disney has pretty much nixed anymore live action TRON films but I really loved this one. I did have some nitpicks and one plot issue with it tho. They incorrectly credited Flynn with creating ENCOM "in his arcade in the 80s". Walter Gibbs - the older guy who was working on the laser tech in the first one - started the company in his garage. It's referenced in Legacy, when Sam is living in a garage with the name Dumont on it (Dumont being Gibbs' program name in the original). Absolutely no reference at all to Alan Bradley when they talked about ENCOM. He was a huge part of that company during the time Flynn vanished until Sam stepped up at the end of Legacy. I'm just baffled there. I thought it would've been a neat little cameo for TRON if he appeared with the Flynn "vision". Sort of like security for the old Flynn Grid. Ares would've been perceived as an enemy program in the system, given he was still reading red at that time. IDK if Bruce Boxleitner wasn't asked/turned down the use of his likeness for TRON, but I think that would've been the coolest place to have him appear. Since we may never get any new TRON material again, I have to once more recommend TRON: Uprising. It'd be a really quick watch for you guys and you'd get more lore and awesome new characters to follow. As mentioned prior, the show takes place between the original film and Legacy. NIN definitely did a great job. Loved their score. Definitely fit the vibe of this particular movie. When you guys get a chance, listen to the track that plays when Ares and Eve escape the Dillinger Grid on the light jetski, "What Have You Done?". It's definitely harder to pick out when watching this movie on a TV as opposed to the big screen. That track is just 👄🤌 My plot issue is the permanence code itself. Everything it said ENCOM was doing at the end of this one, it's what was supposed to happen with Sam bringing Quorra and HER ISO code out into the real world. I don't know if they were planning on addressing it in the next film they would have made, given Ares is actively looking for Quorra at the end of this movie or what. That just bothered me each time I watched it. Like what did Sam lose his father for in Legacy then? So glad you both enjoyed it tho.
