THE LAST OF US EP 9 FINALE FULL LENGTH REACTION + REVIEW

Comments

Josh

I’m an OG game player of this game from the 2013 version and played all the remasters as well(PS4 & PS5) so I know this series like the back of my hand….I gotta say that I 100% agreed with your overall review of this season..Bella and Pedro did a fantastic job, but not gonna lie, Bella wasn’t really working for me at 1st, but by episode 4 she grew on me and now I see her as a parallel version of the Ellie I love, same goes for Pedro as Joel, they add their own uniqueness to the characters that is similar but also different from the characters we love…but yeah overall my main issue is the budget limiting the shows potential and the lack of action with raiders and infected which could have showcased more of Joel’s ruthlessness and the gradual trust and emotional teamwork Joel and Ellie could have developed with each other through those survival moments, but non gameplayers will simply never know how deep their connection really is beyond the couple key moments they saw in the show…. lastly just the gradual emotional connection Joel and Ellie form through-out the series …I feel less emotional connected to them compared to the game version…the show didn’t give me time to really care for them and their relationship together as father and daughter, it kinda feels shallow if that makes sense…like we obviously know they care for each other very much in the show, but I would’ve liked to see the gradual process of that relationship develop rather than the rather quick result of 9 episodes or 7 if you don’t count the 1st and 3rd episodes

As a non-gamer I KNOW how deep the connection between Joel and Ellie is because Joel tells Ellie it wasn't time that healed him and because he kills everyone, sacrifices the hope of a vaccine without the slightest hesitation to save her, but I don't FEEL it. It's rushed, elliptical. It's a shame, I loved this series, it has so many great moments and unforgettable characters (and the cast, hum! Kathleen, Bill, Frank, Tess, Sam, Henry, Sarah, Mercy... I love all of them so much!!!). For me, there is nothing to throw away, nothing too much. There isn't enough of it, it would have needed two more episodes, or longer episodes, with more intros similar to episodes 1 and 2, and more relationship building moments in Joel and Ellie.

The comments from people who played the game about the relationship between Ellie and Joel not being genuine enough or how you can't feel the connection like you did in the game or how non-gamers won't ever get the chance to feel like you did when you played the game, or how the game did this and the show didn't... it's a waste of time. You can 100% feel the intensity of the connection between Ellie and Joel. It's right there on the screen for everyone to see. I, who hasn't played the game, do not need more time or episodes to get the intense connection or the father-daughter relationship. I want more episodes BECAUSE of the intense connection I saw and the father-daughter dynamic that I understood and I just want more story, with them, because of what they already did on screen. The idea that it needs to be more like the game is just fancy complaining based on preconceived expectations. Basically it isn't the exact way you wanted it done so you have to complain about it. Don't say you liked it and then give a 10 paragraph dissertation about how the game was this and the show was that. Nobody cares who didn't play the game, and the people who did play the game apparently already agree with you. So you're not getting anywhere.

This reaction seems to be a bit out of sync like the last one! A bit too fast on your end. I'm not sure if you guys can even fix it at this point, but I just wanted to mention it since I didn't see anyone else doing so.
