DIE HARD (1988) FULL LENGTH MOVIE REACTION - WATCH ALONG

Oh HELL yeah! That's my afternoon sorted! Cheers you guys!

Weird fact about Die Hard: It was based on a book (a good book, they released it on Kindle for the 25th anniversary of the movie and it's a cracking little read) called Nothing Lasts Forever. It is not a standalone novel, but a sequal to another book called The Detective, which was already made into a movie with Frank Sinatra in the starring role. They are both about a cop named Joe Leland who is a far more troubled man than John McClane (although by Die Hard 3 McClane is an alcoholic, which is closer to the book character, and emotionally scarred from the things he's seen and done) and although Hollywood always strays miles from books this one actually doesn't do too badly. Roderick Thorp got the idea for a hostage story set in a skyscraper after going to see Towering Inferno :) So it's a neat little circle :) One last little fact before I go watch this fine, fine movie, the best action film of all time maybe and definitely the second best Christmas film (I wonder if other Patreon members will agree with me on what the best one is; I'll see what they say, but if you've not seen it you MUST add it to your list) ever ... The Nakatomi Building used in the movie? It's Fox Plaza, and it was one of the buildings Project Mayhem brought down in Fight Club :)

Total pleasure again :) And loving the love for Alan Rickman. This was his career defining role. He would go on to play the bad guy again in Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, where Kevin Costner, who starred and directed, was so intimidated by his performance that he allegedly left much of it on the cutting room floor. Nevertheless, Rickman towers over the whole film, deliving not only scene stealing performances but a movie stealing one. For all Costner's efforts to the contrary, Rickman ripped that movie out from under him. His charisma, his delivery, his style is outrageous. What a fabulous actor he was, and a Good Guy as well. He was a great advocate for progressive causes and he was an obsessive diarist, with his diaries postmously published to great acclaim; they offer a portrait of a generous, decent, but very outspoken man who was kind and generous but did not suffer fools. I loved him in Michael Collins, as the politician and rebel De Valera; playing any historical figure is tough but one so complicated is an immense undertaking and he owns. He's the only person who made it onto the Empire Magazine Villians List twice; once for The Sherrif Of Nottingham from the aforementioned Robin Hood, and of course for Hans Gruber. I think he was voted 4th greatest villian of all time. You can tell I'm a Rickman fan, right? An even bigger one since reading his diaries. What a man he was, and what an actor. So glad you guys enjoyed this movie :) And yeah it definitely does count as a Xmas film :) So does Die Hard 2, although it's not as good, but it does have a great story!

I am absolutely shocked that neither of you have seen Die Hard before. I'm glad you guys enjoyed it. The next reaction I look forward to is Signs. Hope you 2 have a good weekend

Signs is gonna be a great one! I can tell by how excited Denise is for us to watch it 😄 Absolutely loved Die Hard, these 80s action flicks are definitely doing it for me.

Alan Rickman absolutely killed it in this! We loved his performance. He had such an incredible presence on screen that is characteristic of those who've been on a stage before. He made every single take count. We'd be game to check out the sequel if it's worth checking it out!

Well worth your time. Strong story and a good cast. By the way, 3 - Die Hard With A Vengeance - is pretty damned fine as well! Samuel L. Jackson is tremendous in that, and it has another tremendous British born baddie in Jeremy Irons.
