What an excellent choice guys :)

OMG This movie brings back memories. Right back to High School sitting in AP Astronomy class was the first time I ever watched this movie. That was 28 years ago!!! lol

Great movie, good choice. I don't think you guys know that this is a true story lol. You kept saying how you like how the script was written & not sure how realistic it was. Apollo 13 happened. It's part of history. You mentioned that you liked how they "wrote Ken back into the script" but they didn't have to write that in. It's a true story so that actually happened.

I'm so glad you watched this guys. Thank you. This movie was tense, and I thank you so much to bring that up. I didn't watch this for a long time, had great fun with you two. The last time I watched it Really no joke: right at the end of the Rocket Launch countdown - really I mean on zero! We've had a power failure proof in the whole town. About 10 years ago, but still remember that. keep going and have a great time!

Great reaction! I just love this film. It's amazing to me that this is all true; that with so many things going wrong, those astronauts came back safe. What were the odds?! Ron Howard is such a great director, and it was important to him to make things as accurate as possible. The only exaggeration was the brief fighting during the most tense moments in space. In actuality, all three astronauts worked well together throughout the ordeal. As director, Howard often uses family members in the cast of his films. Here, his brother, Clint Howard, was the member of the ground crew who told Gene they needed to shut down the fuel cells, his mom played Jim's mother, Blanche, and his dad played the family minister. Finally, Jim Lovell himself appeared at the end of the film as the officer who greeted Tom Hanks after they got off the helicopter.

Excellent watch-along and that passed the afternoon nicely :) What I enjoy most about your reviews is that you really get properly involved in the story, and you follow every beat of it with rapt attention. I couldn't believe you guys hadn't heard of Apollo 13 before! There are some excellent documentaries on it if you're interested in them, and I have to say they are highly recommended. Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes is a great one. So is Jim Lovell's book "Lost Moon", which I read years ago after first seeing the movie. You'd both enjoy that tremendously. For All Mankind is a great documentary about the Apollo program itself; Lovell is interviewed for that and so were a number of other legends including Michael Collins, who was the guy who orbited whilst Armstrong and Aldrin did their historic walk, and Charles Conrad who was the first person to follow them in that endevour. Overall, it's pretty amazing :) Great watch today on this one; as obvious fans of the late Bill Paxton you guys really must watch Near Dark and Frailty. They are both exceptional and he's on stunning form.

Marilyn Lovell also appeared briefly in the movie. She is sitting behind the two wives at the launch. If memory serves me she is wearing blue just behind the two actresses.

It is insane this is based on true events. So glad the astronauts came back home safely after that tense journey. I can't imagine what that must feel like but this movie delivered an experience that put us in there with them! Thank you for the fun fact when it comes to some of the casting in this!

Aww man! Your kind words mean a lot to both of us. Thank you for letting us entertain you! After watching this movie we were both curious and started watching some videos on the subject. Very interesting and the way they adapted the events for a film was honestly very well done! Adding your suggestions to our list! Thank you for always sharing ❤️

That was a fun watch with you guys but I was kind of shocked when I realized you didn't know this was an actual event. I remember being glued to the TV and radio when it was happening. I was 10 years old and Astronauts were my heroes at that time so I wanted every bit of information that was available and it was so exciting when they landed safely.

Just so you know the captain on the ship at the end was the real jim jovell that saluted tom hanks

I've always loved this movie since it came out since I've loved space exploration since I was a kid. The DVD had a commentary including Jim and Marilyn Lovell, which is fantastic. I would also recommend the Apollo 11 documentary, which I saw in IMAX and goes over all the harrowing stuff that I had no idea happened on Apollo 11. HBO also did a miniseries called "From The Earth To The Moon" that Hanks did the openings to that chronicle the entire Apollo program which is fantastic.
