Only Bradd Pitt can have a Fresh looking Cut while there's hell and chaos all around him lol but In all seriousness powerful heartbreaking film, the juxtaposition between Norman and John berthals character on how they play the piano, how War has taken alot of John berthals character humanity away, and even tho they spoke different languages Norman and the German Girl were still able to communicate 🙏 we may speak different tongues, music may sound different, food may taste different but the Spirit is the same 🙏

On that note are you guys going to react to the GOAT of all Trilogies The Lord of the Rings. I know you guys love the world building, character development and filming techniques. I think you guys would have a blast with this

The movie looks good. The actors are good. The vehicles and props are good. I just don't like the rest. The script makes no sense to me. They meander from a set piece to the next while having generic "soldier" banter and everyone is basically a horrible person. The characters seem very one-dimensional cardboard cutouts to me. And I guess the moral of the story is that "war is shit, but there is still hope for redemption". Not very original nor warranted after all that we saw. The enemy is portrayed as mindless buffoons. The set pieces are probably cool for someone who hasn't studied WW2 very much, but they basically make no sense if you have some knowledge of WW2 tactics. I study WW2 in my day job and I can usually handwave ahistorical things in war movies. With movies it all boils down to characters and story, and neither did it for me here, so I kept on focusing on the set pieces which seemed silly to me. I'm not sure why the movie is so popular, but I would say it's not that popular with people who have seen war or studied it a lot. Here's a list of war movies / series that I think capture the feeling of modern warfare more authentically, while still having an engaging story and characters: - Generation Kill, 2008, miniseries (Invasion of Iraq) - The Thin Red Line, 1998 (WW2 Guadalcanal) - The Unknown Soldier, 2017 (WW2 Continuation War) - Platoon, 1986 (Vietnam War)

Another I think you might like, an old one that's equally gritty (especially for when it was made, 1977) that never got the recognition it deserved: Cross of Iron. James Coburn, Maximilian Schell, and James Mason. It's also a World War II film, on the Russian Front. Only reason I can think of that it didn't get more recognition was the fact it was so gritty at a time when the U.S. was neither over Vietnam nor accustomed to that kind of starkness in war movies. Also, if you haven't seen Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970), it's a masterpiece. Critics panned it but audiences loved it - I think the critics gave the audience too little credit for attention span and appreciation of attention to detail. The film tells the story of Pearl Harbor from both sides. The Japanese perspective was filmed by a Japanese cast and crew, and the U.S. side by Americans. It may be the best film portrayal of Pearl Harbor ever made.
