the reason nami and other strawhats might seem a little out of character is bc these episodes were cover stories that the anime actually decided to animate and then add a bunch of filler to. but imagine if they hadn’t animated it; you wouldn’t even know where the crew went! so imagine what other important canon stuff you’re missing since you haven’t read the other cover stories🤔

These episodes made me realize how iconic the main characters are like Chopper and Franky now. In this case I mean how perfect the voice actors fit the role. It's the same for Luffy and Boa also. Absolutely perfect.

I ranked thriller bark high(top 7) not because I focus on the peaks more than anything else, but because I really liked the vibe, comedy and most things throughout the arc; there was also some great strawhat/brook stuff at the start that one pace cut out. Thriller bark isn’t great it’s just a nice fun solid arc that fits the adventure theme of one piece which is what I’m watching for and it also had some peak sprinkled as a bonus.

I'm with Cannon, I remember arcs by their moments. Whether that be funny and silly ones or emotional or just super cool or unique ones. I'm not really focusing on the pacing, because this is an adaption and a lot of the pacing issues and sometimes even character ones, like Sanji, are due to the studio and not by the actual author. But I only feel this forgiving when it comes to long running style anime, like the big 3 or dragonball, hxh etc. Where it is week to week without any breaks or a least very short ones here or there. So the "consistency" is weighed down by the circumstances at the time. What I would consider consistency is how well the core themes, character motivations, and emotional parts are maintained throughout the story, and of course the story/plot. Even if there are dips in the quality by filler shots or badly elongated fights or just in general, if the heart of the story stays the same, the characters act in ways that make sense for their arcs, and the world continues to build then that to me is consistent. Like I said I am much more forgiving for these types of anime because of bias due to me growing up and loving them, as well as studios being studios.

Cannon and the rest of the geks. Please read. That whole nami scene was indeed stupid. Guess what. In the manga she asked where she was while still in bed and the entire half of that epsidpe was a two-page sequence. It’s direct. However, in the anime, Toei stretches this into half an episode, bloating it with unnecessary filler. They add scenes like Nami going out in a storm and sitting down for a meal + drink & screaming yelling chimping out which are events that NEVER happened in the manga. This padding makes Nami appear less sharp and undermines her character, and her impression AS SEEN in Cannon’s response LMAO. (Don’t even get me started on the other scenes that’s just nami,) There was no fake out liek Carter said with Sanji scene in the manga it was immediately revealed he was being chased by men in dresses, he never visited a house he just ran on the beach it was two pages! Do you understand why manga readers and one piece fans recommend one pace? Because filler like that does such a disservice to the storytelling by bringing it down to mediocrity. And oda is not mediocre. Sorry but my war on Toei has only just started and I’m gonna remain the stick in the ass and call out it’s bullshit for doing more damage than harm. No other story would be able to survive 700+ episodes worth of filler other than one piece cause it’s so rich with lore dense with information that Toei milks it and serves u bread crumbs bloated in an ocean of mediocrity. One pace may not be able to fix all aspects of toei’s shitty adaptation but it significantly improves the experience by cutting out FILLER that you clearly HATE. Most of it sucks admit it. The only time their filler and extended cuts are good is usually in fight scenes! Except for when they decide to make a character hover in the air like a for ages and running for eternity. I say all of this with passion. As you continue on ur one piece journey the pacing will get worse as Toei chooses to adapt barely a chapter as I said many times. You will get confused as to what is filler and not like Carter said previously how he was confused because he thought the vivre card ace scene was filler. That’s what happens when Toei mixes is in filler with the story. It cheapens it and u can’t tell what’s Oda’s writing and what’s not. It’s just not a good adaptation or a fair representation of the story. Hence why it’s getting A WHOLE REMAKE BY WIT Thanks for coming to my Ted Rant.

It’s Fuji tv that refused to let Toei go seasonal even in modern times because they would rather sacrifice the story for weekly releases. Fact is in the beginning when it was normal they had decent pacing but later on they adapt less than a chapter which results in MORE episodes than chapters per arcs. One piece has more filler in it than actual author writing and that’s a fact. It’s bloated by about 700+ episodes. That’s diabolical. It’s funny how some staff at Fuji tv were pissed that WIT studio wanted to give it a remake and adaptation it deserves

Definitely disagree that the padding only helps fights; I actually feel like that’s what it usually hurts the most. The filler can add some really cool character moments a lot of the time too. That being said, this current arc can definitely be rough sailing at times without One Pace. But, hey, they can always switch any time if they feel like it’s getting bogged down—no need to commit fully to one or the other. It’s probably hard to take calls for One Pace seriously, considering there were plenty of people calling for it for Amazon Lilly, which is paced perfectly fine in OG.

I feel like it can be interpreted as a lil hindsight merchant but also not at the same time (if that makes sense). Cannon said in the comments below how much he enjoyed these episodes. So please, let them watch normal, it’s not that serious. If they feel like wanting to change, let them make that choice. They’re watching the show for the first time, let them choose whether or not they wanna watch it in some way. The geks are enjoying it a lot, especially cannon, and were in og. A lot of the crew feel kinda out of character ‘cause those stories were originally from the cover stories in the manga it was just like two pages for each member, but the anime dragged it out. Nami: they showed her at the old man house, she saw the wind knot, then right away asked where she was. The old man said she’s on a sky island called Weatheria, where they study weather science. Franky: the kid and the old guy found him, they danced a bit, then he asked where he was. They said it’s a mechanical island called Baldimore, created by a genius. Sanji: they just showed him running away saying he’s in hell. Chopper: they only showed the birds when he woke up and fell from the tree, then those people found him.
