Just to give context the fallout universe is set in an alternate earth we're technology went nuclear based rather then combustion engine based like our world.

What’s usually considered the best game is Fallout New Vegas from 2010. Fallout 4 is a pretty decent game but a lot of the more OG fans feel that it dumbed down a lot of the writing and RPG elements. I guess this is kind of a hot take but I’m not huge on the series. At this point the last really good game New Vegas is about to be over 15 years old, I tried playing it a couple years ago and it just felt super dated to me, somehow way more than Skyrim which came out only a year later. If I want to play a Bethesda RPG I’d prefer Skyrim, if I wanted to play a shooter I’d play anything else, the writing and the story of the most recent game wasn’t even that good imo, it just feels like it’s hard carried by the world and aesthetic sometimes (which Bethesda didn’t even make, the whole setting of the IP started before Bethesda took over). Starfield is pretty much what you would get if you took Fallout 4 and took away the unique setting and world. The core of the gameplay and writing, basically everything Bethesda has to actually do themselves isn’t that good

Fallout is literally the best type of franchise that any hollywood studio could adapt cuz of how different each of the stories of each game is and how you can play them any way you'd want. They just have to stay true to the universe and the rules of it then after you can make your own story.

New Vegas is the most popular by far, 4 is very good and for sure worth playing, 3 is good but not great imo but many love it for he nostalgia, 76 was awful when it dropped but its got a ton of updates and is good now imo. Also 76 is multiplayer which is cool. Id say run new vegas or 4, and if u like them u can play 76 together

So heads-up, an explanation on the world here, and I believe spoiler free. Talking about themes rather the substance. Jack touched on “retro-futurism”, which is the genre trope here for a lot of the world design and such. Imagine the 50’s / 60’s but far more advanced than what the real world 50s / 60s of “our timeline”. The aesthetics and character designs will draw inspiration from it. Imagine if you asked someone from our 50s / 60s “what would you imagine the future of the 2nd millennium will look like?” Of course, we live in that time and no it doesn’t look like this world, but that’s what retro-futurism is. Furthermore, a lot of the hyper-American nationalist tones from that era are in this. Real deep into The Red Scare and everything can be boiled down simply to just Good Guys vs Bad Guys. Like, what if The Cold War went hot, and nuclear arms deals never got the table? This point is actually a thought experiment for world building that you’ve seen before. Think of like how the Cyberpunk world was built. Mike Pondsmith started reimagining world events from the real world, such as the Berlin Wall, WW2 outcomes, economic collapses, from as early as 1940s, and peppers those until 2010ish. But by that period onward, the course of world events in the Cyberpunk world start looking so dissimilar that it would be considered building a new world. The difference between Fallout and Cyberpunk, Retro-Futurism and Dark Future, are the slight nuances in the genre’s goal/arguments and then the more overt setting of the future. A future where everything kept going too far and too fast vs a future where everything had stopped ‘future’ing’ after such cataclysmic events like the nukes Y’all are gonna love this. And the match for Fallout is very easy to find so I bet the studio is going to get some of that

in the fallout universe ghouls are people that have gotten so irradiated that it mutates their dna to make them basically immortal. they can still be shot but they dont die naturally. their skin is all crazy bc of the radiation, like the dudes behind the plastic in chernobyl but it doesnt kill them. his nose is gone bc it literally fell off rofl. glad you guys are watching this show fallout 3 is one of my favorite games all time and i havent seen the show yet

Fallout is one of my favorite games 4 is probably the one I have played the most of though. I was worried on how the show would be handled and delayed watching it until just a couple months ago, to find I was worried over nothing. I feel like they did such a fantastic job on this show, the small details- background items, design, small talk- even the comedic/horrifying combat moments.
