In this episode we identify and fix the problem that led to a binding rudder, although we are left with some unanswered questions about corrosion. We also scrape, sand, and paint the bottom of the boat to get her ready to re-launch, and re-varnish the transom… phew!

How frustrating. The alloying material in bronze is tin, not zinc, although some bronzes can also contain small amounts of zinc, but more commonly aluminium, nickel, phosphor or silicon. There can be some galvanic action between different types of bronze, though it's usually very mild. Stainless steel is generally not so benign.

Difficult material situation here: 'WWW' : Wet Wood Warps. Pins and sockets out of alignment. Long term issue. Lots of sticky doors in old houses have the same problem with hinge alignment. Only way to solve the problem for good is have the pins and sockets welded to a long thing metal plate which will not warp like wood. The plastic bushings are standard here too. Every refrigerator door has them.
