New Frames! (Patreon)
Content
Hi all!
Just a quick update!
Things are going well here - we are two-thirds of the way through our “frame-raising” party, and are on-schedule with our goal to make and install all of the frames for the stern part of the boat. After the training period, we have been making and installing an average of one frame per day, which I am extremely pleased with! The current team here is amazing, and I am so grateful to all of them for getting involved in this critical period. You will be meeting them all properly in the next video!
After this period, I will be heading back to the UK to visit family, and am planning a little bit of sailing while I’m back in Europe, too.
On my return, I will be working on replacing the Bow Assembly - that is, the Stem, the Stem Knee, the Forefoot and the Mast Step. This will be done in a similar way to the Stern assembly, and then when it is completed we will hopefully have another “Frame-raising” party to complete all the bow frames.
I am inches away from finalising the order for Tally Ho’s planking stock. I should have ordered it long ago, but it is such a significant decision and expense that it has taken me some time to work up to it! It will almost certainly be Wana, a light tropical hardwood, and will be milled and transported from Surinam. It is a very durable and workable wood, and is abundant and affordable in that part of the world - as well as being sustainably harvested. The timber will still be quite green (high moisture content) when it arrives, but I have a couple of clever plans to get around that issue.
I’d like to thank you all again for your wonderful support. Not a day goes by that I do not appreciate the generosity of everyone here - and without it, this project probably would have ground to a halt by now. Needless to say, I feel extremely lucky to be able to keep working to get Tally Ho afloat again!
Above is a photo of the inside of the boat taken this-morning. You can see there are 8 new pairs of frames in the stern (in two groups). We have 4 more to make and install next week!
All my thanks,
Leo
