We have begun paying Tally Ho's deck seams! This means filing the seams with a flexible sealant on top of the cotton which has already been hammered in. We are using Teakdecking Systems (TDS) SIS 440, which is a tough, flexible solid rubber compound and is designed specifically for this task. Although not as traditional as using hot pitch, which is what would have been done originally, TDS is a lot more flexible and should help prevent leaks for longer. Zeal and Nic are filling the seams with electric caulk guns and then going over them with a putty knife to press the material down and remove some excess. Later on the whole deck will be sanded to leave neat seams and clean wood.
