Most of the team is back at work now and things are getting moving again! Here we see an almost-finished bronze cap on a fife rail post, courtesy of Zeal. The main purpose of these caps is to cover and protect the end-grain of the posts (and to look really cool, obviously). 

I see a lot of comments about lining up the slots on the heads of screws. In my opinion, it can certainly be appropriate in some places as an aesthetic detail, but in other situations it's not worth it - especially in hardwood or metal, lining up the heads can sometimes result in over- or under-tightening the screw.
