The second round pits the Pikalka, Newhome's smallest genta species, against the three-tailed Shenka, inhabitants of Tri-Spire Island. We've prepared an artist's sketch of the basic morphology of each, plus a brief summary to help you make the decision.

Higher-detail version of the above image, including artist depictions, included in an attachment to this message.

The Pikalka are arguably the most developed of the submissions in terms of lore, plus their hive culture, invertebrate design, and small size make them very distinctive in the current lineup of Genta. So I think they’d be the best inclusion to the game.

While I find the idea of the Shenka worldview and background interesting in the hypothetical, I'd want to see their story by living as one of them, not by engaging with them from the outside. Therefore, I'm swaying towards the Pikalka. Possibly out of affection for the Minisics in the Great Green, whom they remind me of a little. Also, metamophic species who select an adult from and lock themselves into a caste hold a certain appeal to someone who's read a book set on a neutron star.

Rot

I totally agree on the Minisics!!! Also, what book?

Helen

The book is called Dragon's Egg, and its by Robert Forward. Part human narrative, part Cheela narrative. The Cheela are the strangest Aliens I've ever read, anywhere. The parts of the book that focused on them were a real highlight, covering survival and slowly building civilization in an alien world, and over countless generations.

Just so you know, the Miniscs... the real ones, from GT1... will indeed be making an appearance in Hierophant. They're quite the star-trotters, those ones. You probably won't know it's them the first time you meet them, though, or even the tenth, though the truth of their mission on Earth (and Newhome) might be revealed to the inquisitive and clever.

Helen

That will be fantastic. I look forward to those star-trotters, and playing at figuring them out. Still siding with the Pikalka, because I'd rather play in a shenka's world than see it from outside.
