The army of wights at the end are reanimated corpses raised from the dead by the White Walkers (the one on the horse is a White Walker) by necromancy. The Faceless Men's ability is not related to the return of the dragons. Valar Morghulis is a greeting and has a specific meaning as does Valar Dohaeris...but I'll stop there. One of my favorite scenes is that brief moments when Sansa thinks she is free and is smiling so brightly she's almost giddy...but then Littlefinger tells her she's not free...once again I'll stop there. Theon's future...get ready. I'm pretty sure Pentos was where Daenerys was living with her brother before they met Drogo.

Season 3 is a big one!

The Red Keep was built nearly 50 years after Aegon's Conquest of Westeros and was never destroyed by dragons so the vision of it that Dany sees in the House of the Undying was likely a trick of Warlock illusion. Littlefinger comes from almost nothing. His house is extremely small and poor but he is still, in fact, a lord. A minor one. Joffrey said he will be given Harrenhal *along with all its lands and holdings,* so yes, that will make him Lord of Harrenhal, an enormous step up from his birthright. Obviously it would take an impossible amount of wealth to restore the ruined castle to what it once was, but that's irrelevant because the title alone will give Baelish significant resources and sway. Book Theon is 18 or 19 at the start of the series. He's been a ward of the Starks since he was 10 as his father's rebellion was crushed by Robert and Ned 9 years before the events of the first book. As others have said, the show ages up most of the characters rather significantly. It was inevitable that they'd become older than their book counterparts anyway because the show filmed one book per season and one season per year, whereas through 5 books, I believe only 2-3 years have passed since the beginning.

I wonder if either of you recall a scene from very early in this season: Lady Melissandre whispers something into the ear of Matthos Seaworth (Davos' son) and Stannis asks her what she said to him. Her words were "fire is the cleanest death."

I see you guys clocking Littlefinger! Great job! Well, he's done it! Lord of Harrenhal! A minor lord no more! You both touched on something that's brought up in book 2 in an interesting way. You said Sansa can't take Joffrey seriously after seeing him cry when Arya and Nymeria got him. Cersei actually addresses this early on. When Joffrey starts all this abuse Cersei tells Sansa that she witnessed Joffrey's humiliation and now he's humiliating her in return. She said it like it perfectly logical. I hope you guys do the season 2 history and lore. I can't wait for season 3! Just keep in mind that gap we spoke of between the show and the books is about the size of the English Channel for season 3.

Also, I would say Varys and Illyrio are partners. They work together.

-- King's Landing: Tyion wakes up to find he has been unceremoniously tossed out of the Tower of the Hand into quarters that are not nearly as nice. Even though he led the defense of the city when Joffrey basically fled, he is not getting any recognition for it whatsoever - he is quite literally being tossed aside. This is a textbook example of how Tywin treats him. Tywin is no fool, but he is hateful and spiteful. He knows Tyrion is smart and will do a good job, which is why he sent him to be the Hand in his place, but the moment he doesn't need him anymore he takes pleasure in neglecting him and reminding him just how "unimportant" he is to the rest of the Lannisters. Varys tells him the truth of the situation - the people "in the know" are aware of what he did for them and the city, but his father will not allow Tyrion's name to go down in history as the savior of King's Landing. Shae tries to convince him to leave, but he loves playing the game of thrones too much. ----- Meanwhile, in the throne room we see Littlefinger, Margaery, and Loras's plan coming to fruition (and Margaery knew exactly what she was doing with that dress! Look at the styles of dresses that the women wear - no other high born lady has one cut all the way down to her belly button. She came there to get herself a husband!) Littlefinger then *immediately* goes to Sansa (was this also part of his master plan?) and tries to convince her to trust him, that he can help get her out of the capital and back to her family, but she declines. ----- Varys, after giving Littlefinger the most bombastic side-eye ever in the throne room, then books it straight to the brothel and tries to get Ros to turn on Littlefinger and work for him instead - what's he planning? -- Westerlands: As Jamie and Brienne are travelling, they come across the bodies of the prostitutes who were murdered by the Stark soldiers for sleeping with Lannisters and its a good reminder that just because you are rooting for one side or another to win the war, it doesn't mean this side or that side is "good" or "evil" - 90% of the people who are actually doing the fighting are just regular people who were plucked from their regular lives to become soldiers in this war, and just being from the North or being for the Starks does not mean someone is a good person. I **LOVE** it when Brienne kills that arrogant jackass and says back to him, "Two quick deaths?" ----- At the same time, Robb is telling Catelyn that he plans to marry Talisa, therefore breaking his promise to Walder Frey. I find him really childish in this conversation. He knows what he's doing is wrong, so he's trying to shift the blame wherever else he can. He says the reason she wants him to keep the promise is because she is the one who relayed the message - that is so ridiculous, they sent Cat in to talk to Walder Frey because she offered, thinking he would be less likely to harm her. If it were less perilous times, a messenger could have gone. Or a raven. Regardless, Robb is the one who made the oath. Then he lashes out and says, it doesn't matter if he's reckless because Ned is dead and Cat is reckless too. That just highlights how young he is ... Whether you agree or disagree with what she did, and you know which camp I'm in, I think sending Jaime away was the right thing to do, but even if it wasn't - two wrongs don't make a right and that situation has nothing to do with this one. NOW. ALL OF THAT being said. Their wedding is very romantic and I'm happy for them. They are very cute, one of my favorite couples along with Tyrion and Shae. I just wish Robb would own it and be like, "Yes, I'm breaking an important oath and there might be hell to pay, I'll go to Walder Frey and apologize, I'll try to make amends, maybe Bran can marry one of his daughters instead, we'll work it out, I'll do whatever I need to do to make this right, but I'm in love with her and I have to marry her, etc. etc etc." -- Dragonstone: Stannis is pissed off after his defeat at the hands of the Lannisters and Tyrells and demands answers from Melisandre, because she claimed she had "seen" his victory in the flames. Even though he's mad enough to try to kill her, she somehow shows him something in the flames that convinces him not to. -- Winterfell: The auxillary Northern forces that Robb sent to Winterfell have Theon surrounded and it seems like the person in charge of blowing the horn is doing it just to torture him. Luwin comes up with an idea for Theon to escape and join the Night's Watch, where he'll be forgiven for everything he's done, but Theon doesn't go for it. He seemingly rallies his troops with an epic speech, but he didn't know they had already planned to betray him. They can do whatever they want to Theon, I don't really care, but why did they have to stab Maester Luwin???!!! Later, when Bran, Rickon, Osha, Hodor, Shaggydog, and Summer come out of hiding we see that Winterfell has been burned almost to the ground. Luwin tells them to go North and find Jon, obviously not knowing that Jon's "in a spot of bother" right now, and they leave. For the first time in probably thousands of years, there are no Starks in Winterfell. -- Riverlands: Arya, Hotpie, and Gendry are making their way away from Harrenhall when Arya spots Jaqen H'ghar - she's very interested in learning how he is such an efficient killer (perhaps to start on her list?) and he offers to take her to Braavos to teach her to be a "faceless man" but she says she has to find her family first. He gives her a special coin and tells her whenever she needs to find him again to give it to any man from Braavos and say the words 'Valar Morghulis,' before changing his face right in front of her eyes and then walking away. -- Qarth: Daenerys goes to the House of the Undying to find her dragons, and the Warlocks try all kinds of different tricks to keep her captive. They had previously stated that their magic woke up when the dragons were born and is stronger when they are near, so they want to keep both Dany and the dragons captive if possible. They somehow read her thoughts and find the things that she wants the most in the world and try to tempt her with these things - first they show her the Iron Throne, then they show her Khal Drogo and Rhaego, but during all these visions she hears her dragons crying in the backround and she keeps leaving to find them. Finally the warlocks realize they can't mentally trap her so they chain her, but that doesn't work either when we see the dragons burn them to death. She then finds Xaro in bed with the "missing" Dorreah, and it is true that Daenerys is not what you would call a "forgiving" person ... she locks them both in his vault to die a terrible death, and steals anything of value for her, Jorah, and the few remaining Dothraki to get the hell out of there. -- North of the Wall: Qhorin had previously told Jon that he would have to convince the Wildlings he was on their side in order for them to trust him, and he also asked Ygritte in front of Jon what Mance would do with him so that Jon would know that Mance would kill Qhorin as soon as they got back to the camp. Jon was supposed to pick up on these clues, that basically Qhorin was a goner as soon as they got captured so they might as well use it to their advantage so his death wouldn't be in vain. But we know Jon and we know he's going to have a hard time putting this charade on and he's certainly going to have a hard time killing someone, especially someone he looks up to. When he saw they were getting close to the camp, Qhorin started the fake fight with Jon, calling him a traitor, insulting him and provoking him, until Jon finally killed him. Then with his dying breath, he said, "We are the watchers on the wall," letting Jon know he did what he had to do for the greater good, now Jon needs to find out what he can and get back to the Wall to let the rest of the Night's Watch know. ----- Finally, at the Fist of the First Men, Edd, Grenn and Sam are gathering frozen moose poop to burn for a fire when the horn gets blown three times (that's the first time that has happened in hundreds of years) meaning White Walkers are coming. The others take off running and Sam gets left to hide behind a rock as an enormous horde of wights (the reanimated human corpses/zombies) and white walkers (the supernatural beings that look almost like they are made of ice) march past him.

Damo’s comments about Jon are so interesting at this point :)

Hey guys, can I ask if you're watching this on DVD or Sky Atlantic? I've just tried to watch this episode with my own copy via Sky Atlantic and it doesn't sync at all. I just had to keep pausing my copy every 5-10 seconds. I've tried to change the speed on your settings but then yours is to fast. I can't sync up. Does anyone know how I can do this please? Thank you.

DN Reacts

Hey! We watch on Amazon Prime UK! Not sure why it won’t stay sync’d for you 😭

Kilgore Trout

I started watching the hour and a half version assuming it was the uncut one. I don't know how I'm going to watch 3 of these a week with you. I have no idea how you have the time to record and edit 3 of these a week given the other shows you do. Did you both quit your real jobs?

DN Reacts

We did yes, no way we could have done this and still have another job 😂 my partner helps with the editing now so that eases some pressure on us and allows us to record more and get our edits done. It’s still very demanding though of course! The 2 hour uncut was because of the season finale, they won’t all be this long 😂
