Jon said there are 1000 men at Castle Black, which was obviously a lie. Earlier in the show I think it was mentioned there were less than 600 men at Castle Black. Lord Commanded Mormont took most of the force - about 400 men north - and most of them are dead now - so...

This episode follows up Jaime's monologue from the prior episode with another gem from Littlefinger at the end. If you ever want to know who either of those two characters are those are the two best scenes to watch. "The Climb is all there is". -Littlefinger This man don't give two craps about anything but his own ambition.

I always enjoy your in-depth pre and post episode discussions, as well as the wild theories you come up with. Every once and a while one of them ends up being correct!

The hints of where Theon is are becoming less subtle.

Lots of the people in the free cities - east of the Narrow Sea - speak some form of Valyrian besides their native languages. Remember that most of those cities were either conquered by, influenced by, or originated from Valyria. Valyria was the dominant power in the region for a long time. Think of people speaking English in India for example. Valar Morghulis (All men must die) is just a common greeting in High Valyrian, to which people are supposed to respond with Valar Dohaeris (All men must serve). It is just a "polite" - albeit very dramatic - way of saying "good day to you, sir or lady"...

"Chaos is a ladder." -- North of the Wall: Sam and Gilly try to stay warm while making their way down to the wall with the baby, and learning more about each other as they go. Jon, Ygritte, Tormund, and the other Wildlings are preparing to climb the wall when Ygritte tells Jon she knows the truth about him - that he didn't stop being a crow when he pretended to join Mance's cause. But it doesn't matter; she says she doesn't matter to Mance and Jon doesn't matter to the Night's Watch, that they have to be loyal to each other instead. -- Somewhere in the North: There's a lot of tension between Meera and Osha and they argue over stupid things like who skins rabbits faster when suddenly Jojen starts having a seizure. Meera explains that his visions take a toll on him. Jojen has "the sight" which means he has visions like Bran does, in addition to Bran being a Warg. In Jojen's vision, he saw Jon north of the Wall with the Wildlings. -- Riverlands: Melisandre arrives at the Brotherhood's campsite and is shocked to find out that Thoros has been able to bring Beric back to life, saying that he "shouldn't have that power." She pays the Brotherhood gold for Gendry, which pisses Arya off, and then makes a weird prophecy about Arya closing multiple pairs of eyes forever and says they will meet again in the future. -- Unconfirmed location: Theon continues to get tortured by the unknown young man who at one point says he is one of the sons of Karstark, but then admits that he's a liar. -- Riverrun: A couple of Walder Frey's sons come to Riverrun to make an agreement with Robb; they say that their alliance can continue as before even though Walder is mad about Robb going back on his oath to marry one of his daughters. Instead, Edmure will have to marry one of the daughters and he doesn't get to choose which one, and Walder wants Harrenhal (which is a ruin of a castle but comes with a ton of money). Edmure isn't super happy about this but they finally agree to the terms. -- Harrenhal: Jaime and Brienne have an awkward dinner with Lord Bolton, and he agrees to send Jaime back to King's Landing in exchange for Jaime's promise to tell Tywin that Bolton had nothing to do with Jaime losing his hand. He says however that Brienne will not be allowed to go with him, because she's guilty of treason for colluding with Catelyn to free Jaime in the first place (which doesn't make any sense because he is also letting Jaime go free.) -- King's Landing: Olenna is not at all happy about the Loras/Cersei match and tells Tywin as much, saying that Cersei is too old to give Loras children. Tywin is ready with some blackmail though - if Olenna refuses the match, he will name Loras to the Kingsguard and he will never be allowed to marry or have children. Olenna has no choice but to agree to the marraige. Their whole conversation is one of my favorites - Olenna is so witty and Tywin is so dry, their interactions are hilarious! Sansa and Loras are sitting in the garden, discussing their wedding. They are a little awkward, and obviously they'd never have some deep, passionate, true love, but at least they would be able to have a nice life together where Sansa would be safe and not tortured. It's such a shame Littlefinger and the Lannisters had to interfere. Tyrion and Cersei are talking about how all four people involved in these 2 arranged marraiges are not going to be happy, and Tyrion also gets confirmation that is was actually Joffrey who gave the order for him to be killed during the Battle of Blackwater Bay. Tyrion finally goes to Sansa's room to break the news to her, and he tries to hint to Shae to leave the room, but she says she's not going anywhere. Meanwhile, Littlefinger and Varys have another one of their illuminating talks in the throne room. Littlefinger tells Varys he's aware of him trying to go behind his back and marry Sansa off to Loras in order to thwart him, while Varys swears that wasn't his primary intention. Littlefinger lets Varys know that he discovered Ros was giving Varys information about him behind his back. They discuss the kingdom and Varys says chaos is a pit while Littlefinger disagrees and says chaos is a ladder, giving some the opportunity to climb to a new social status while others refuse and fall to their demise. During Littlefinger's speech we see that Sansa is despondent at the news that she has to marry Tyrion and stay in King's Landing and also that Joffrey has murdered Ros. -- The Wall: The entire episode shows the struggle that Jon and Ygritte go through to reach the top of the Wall through troubles like ice breaking, getting cut loose by Orell (Mackenzie Crook's character), and then climbing the rest of the way on their own. Finally they reach the top, absolutely exhausted, witness the breathtaking views from that high up, and share a triumphant kiss.
